Summary
Join our well established Practice Development Nurse (PDN) team on the Neonatal Unit at the Evelina London Children's Hospital part of Guy's and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust. We are a tertiary referral centre incorporating 20 NICU, 12 HDU and 14 special care cots. We provide an unrivalled breadth of experience, caring for babies with surgical, cardiac, neurological, renal and metabolic disorders as well as those born prematurely.
With our large nursing workforce the PDN’s are responsible for the education and teaching of pre and post registration student nurses. The post holder will be responsible for the organisation and planning of clinical placement and study days for students and staff.
Newly qualified cohorts of band 5 staff nurses have a tailor made developmental programme to provide them theoretical and practical support as they transition to become independent practitioners. The PDN team take full responsibility for this which has improved retention of our Band 5 nurses.
Other exciting aspects of the role include participating in recruitment, teaching resuscitation training, Implementing new medical equipment and continuous educational updates.
There is an expectation that you would continue to maintain your highly developed clinical skills by working rostered shifts on the neonatal unit to ensure you provide and teach up to date evidence based care.

To be responsible for developing and co-ordinating education initiatives within the speciality. To lead and take continuing responsibility for the in-service development of all nursing staff working within their area of specialty. To provide leadership and motivation to establish clinical practices, which is research/evidence-based and lead to standard setting and regular audit in line with the Trust’s commitment to Clinical Governance. To monitor and review clinical and professional standards of care, reporting on performance, and instituting remedial action where necessary.
