The post is within well-developed multidisciplinary teams working in the vibrant borough of Tower Hamlets. There are opportunities to work flexibly and good support from a collegiate consultant body within the Directorate.

Bow and Poplar Neighbourhood Mental Health Service (NMHT) is an integrated multidisciplinary service. The service is based around Primary Care Networks and the post-holder will join the current substantive consultant to provide clinical leadership to the team. The team is based at a community clinic which also houses the Bethnal Green NMHT, the Tower Hamlets Early Intervention Service, Early Detection Service and a Specialist Autism Assessment. The inpatient facilities are based at the Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health at Mile End Hospital. The service base is very central to the borough with good bus and Tube connections.

The post-holder will assume full consultant responsibilities for their proportion of patients under the care of the NMHT. They will provide clinical leadership to that part of the service and is expected to engage in the management and development of the service. They will act as Responsible Clinician when appropriate for patients of the service who are liable to detention or subject to Community Treatment Orders (for the purpose of the Mental Health Act). Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

These are 19 bed single sex wards, shared with another NMHT, Bethnal Green. There are close links between the community and ward based teams. The ward’s clinical governance is enhanced by an Associate Clinical Director who has responsibility for the Inpatient Unit.

The post holder will have regular contact with the GP practices in their patch offering advice and liaison and will need to maintain strong relationships with partner agencies and primary care colleagues to facilitate a responsive service that can see patients quickly, but also discharge back to primary care.
