The Land Based Industries Department at Barnsley College are looking for a highly motivated Animal and Activity Worker, who will be based at our Wigfield Farm Campus. This is a Variable hours post, making it an ideal opportunity for individuals seeking flexibility to balance work alongside other commitments.

Wigfield Farm is set in the Worsborough Country Park area of Barnsley, the farm has three main functions:
• A working farm producing livestock
• A base for Barnsley College Animal Management and Horticulture courses
• An Open Farm and Visitors Centre accessible to the local and wider community

Standing much smaller than a standard commercial farm, Wigfield covers 55 acres of land and houses a collective of domestic and exotic animals. We are looking for a new Animal and Activities Worker who appreciates the primary function of the animal collection as a curriculum resource for our students, but also recognises the nature of the environment. You must uphold high regard for essential health and safety measures, as well as the upmost respect for animal welfare.

This role will offer the opportunity to work in a practical land-based setting but also provides a cohesive link between the farm’s commercial activities and the teaching team. This ensures a high-quality experience appropriate to our students, staff, animals and visitors to best current industry practice. Maintaining boundaries, structures and surfaces is an essential duty in this post so candidates must have experience of fencing works. Operating agricultural machinery and driving tractors and is also a key requirement and experience in this area is highly desirable.

This is a busy post, and the successful Animal and Activities Worker will fulfil a role in delivering the high standards of customer service expected by the customers of Wigfield Farm. Please note this work will be a mixture of weekday weekends and holiday working.
