An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the RTT Team at the Queen Victoria Hospital. and based at the spoke site in Medway Maritime Hospital Trust.

The RTT Validator role includes management of the patient journey through the care pathway in accordance with NHS England Referral to Treatment (RTT) guidelines and requirements for QVH Patients at our spoke sites in Kent.

The successful candidate will have good organisational skills and a good knowledge of the RTT guidelines. They will work closely with the Service Coordinator and Service Manager and liaise with the administrative and clinical staff to progress patient pathways and ensure accuracy of waiting lists.

1) Monitor the RTT18 Patient Target List (PTL) on a daily basis in conjunction with all departments, querying and investigating patient pathway status.

2) Investigate and escalate queries concerning more complex patient pathways.

3) Responsibility for validating clock start dates and closing patient pathways when appropriate.

4) Assist all administrative staff with RTT18 queries.

The post holder will proactively validate closed and open pathways within the Trust. The post holder will be required to work closely and proactively with all the departments involved in the patients’ pathway within the Trust.

The position is part time, working 4 days a week.

Pathway Management
• Monitor the RTT18 Patient Target List (PTL) on a daily basis in conjunction with all departments (open and closed pathways), querying and investigating patient pathway status.
• Responsible for closing patient pathways on Patient Centre, following trust policy, including those re-opened in error, ensuring correct status codes are used.
• Investigate and escalate queries concerning more complex patient pathways to the RTT and Appointments Manager and also to the Service Coordinators as and when required. This may include contacting other organisations to collate the information for a decision to be made.
• Check patients case notes for the relevant pathway information that has not been recorded on Patient Centre.
• Investigate mandatory data sheets for the clock start dates for tertiary referrals and waiting list activity from off site, cancelled appointments and DNAs.
• Assist in the calculation of pause days where applicable/allowed for patients added to the waiting list and ensure this is added and submitted as part of the weekly PTL review.
• Code RTT pathways that require action by the services as per the agreed trust processes.
• Re-open pathway which have been closed by others in error and notify services concerned.
• Add episodes and pathways for incidental findings found in outpatient follow-up appointments.
• Email and liaise with the relevant secretaries if actions are required for the patient’s pathway.
• Monitor the pathways of patients transferred to other hospital for diagnostics.
• Assist all administrative staff with RTT18 queries.
• Change clock start dates where patients failed to arrive (DNAs).
• Inform clinical coders of any un-coded procedures performed in the outpatient department.
• Attend the weekly RTT18 meetings to discuss any issues and highlight trends within the department to the RTT and Appointments Manager.
• Assist in the development of pathway flowcharts within the services to be used as guides for secretarial staff.
• Respect patient confidentiality and act in accordance with data protection policies at all times.



Waiting List Management
• Monitor the waiting list PTL to ensure all patient are added to the waiting list have an RTT pathway.
• Responsible for identifying and deleting any duplicate pathways.
• Ensure closed pathways on active monitoring are re-started as per the RTT policy.
