Summary

Our Edinburgh office is situated in the heart of the bustling city centre, with panoramic views of the castle, gardens and Princes Street below. The office is always alive with activity as it houses a 65-strong team consisting of mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and support teams. The office’s open plan kitchen and staff break out area often plays host to our team’s socialising time, whether it’s over a morning coffee, lunch or after work unwind.

About the Role:

As a Structural/Civil Engineer at Harley Haddow, you will bring your engineering knowledge, analytical skills, and developed design and drawing abilities to our team. You will play a vital role in delivering Structural/Civil Engineering designs, taking ownership of your projects, preparing calculations, and managing drafting work through technicians. With excellent communication skills, you will represent Harley Haddow in direct contact with clients and other design team members.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Structural/Civil Engineering designs for projects at various stages.
- Prepare sketches, diagrams, and drawings under the supervision of a Principal or Technical Director.
- Conduct calculations for all structural elements, reviewing load takedowns with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Apply stability principles to proposed structures and communicate complex designs to colleagues.
- Attend internal and external meetings autonomously.
- Liaise with other disciplines for project coordination.
- Prepare structural engineering reports and specifications.
- Ensure designs consider hazard and risk reduction, including preparation of risk registers and construction sequences.
- Oversee the work of junior staff and conduct site visits during the construction phase.
- Manage and deliver designs for multiple projects, adhering to quality, environment, and health & safety standards.
- Actively develop the abilities of Graduate and Apprentice Engineers in software packages such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla TEDDS, and more.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Bachelor/Masters).
- Graduate membership with ICE or IStructE.
- Demonstrable skills in project management, delivery, and quality control.
- Excellent people and client-facing skills.
- Initiative to provide engineering and management solutions.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Full UK Driving Licence (advantageous but not required).
- Willingness to travel for meetings and projects, occasionally necessitating overnight stays.
