We have an opportunity for a full-time Associate Specialist to shape services at Cygnet Hospital Ealing – while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first-class multidisciplinary team.

Cygnet Hospital Ealing provides a welcoming, non-institutional environment, offering personalised treatment for service users with an eating disorder or personality disorder over two separate wards.

This role is based on Sunrise Ward, our 14 bed specialist Tier 4 service, providing treatment, care and support for women with a primary diagnosis of eating disorder.

Your role responsibilities…

  • Routine medical and psychiatric support to Sunrise and emergency cover for the other ward, New Dawn (nine-bed, inpatient, NHSE commissioned personality disorder unit).
  • Initial clerking and mental state examination of newly admitted patients.
  • The assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients of the unit.
  • Participation in weekly Ward Rounds and in other multidisciplinary meetings, including Care Programme Approach (CPA) Meetings, First Tier Tribunal hearings, Managers hearings and Section 117 meetings, ensuring that full and up-to-date clinical information is available to the meeting and ensuring that medical decisions are implemented as planned
  • Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
  • Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
  • Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
  • Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
  • The post holder will participate in the ‘duty doctor’ on-call rota at the hospital, and will be on-call. Supervision for on-call related issues will take place in consultation with the Consultant on call or the following day with the consultant for the respective Unit.

We are looking for someone who is...

  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Experienced in Eating Disorders and General Adult Psychiatry
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practice
  • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level – and you’ll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.
