Summary


Colchester Urgent Treatment Centre is at the front of Colchester Hospital’s ED and will see, treat and discharge or stream patients to the most suitable service dependant on their needs. The UTC is open from 7am until Midnight, 7 days a week. The UTC see, treat and discharge Minor Injury and Minor Illness presentations in line with the National UTC Principles and Standard. Being co-located with the Emergency Department, means the UTC practitioners will be required to assess a mix of acuity and be expected to ensure the patient is sent to the right place at the right time.

We are looking for experienced nurse or allied health professional, with experience in working autonomously managing Injury and Illness presentations. You will ideally have experience working in an Emergency Department, Urgent Care setting and or Primary Care and have an understanding on the management of Adult and Children (from birth) injury and illness. You will ideally have undertaken your Assessment and Consultation, Minor Injury and Illness modules and also be a Non-Medical prescriber. You will also be able to see, treat and discharge Paediatric and Adult patients.

Our Clinical Practitioners offer a ‘Care at the Door’ service which has been recognised by the National NHS England team as a Gold Standard Service. The ‘Care at the Door’ offers the patient the opportunity to be seen by a clinician on presentation to the UTC/ ED and they will then be streamed to the most suitable service.

We have x2 posts availabe- x1 permanent and x1 fixed term/secondment opportunity until June 2025
• To practice autonomously without direct supervision.
• To utilise clinical skills to assess, diagnose, treat and refer patients requiring the clinical service
• To recognise the need for, initiate and where appropriate interpret relevant diagnostic investigations.
• To recognise the need for and refer to the appropriate specialisms.
• To exhibit excellent nonverbal and verbal communication skills when dealing with patients and carers.
• To have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively
• To maintain appropriate clinical records in line with current practice guidelines
• To undertake the role of Clinical Co-ordinator when require
• Deliver Care at the Door and Navigation role

You will be part of the UTC team and be expected to embed your knowledge and also assist with the team with the Front door process, Care at the Door and Co-Ordination. You will be required to be flexible with working hours when required.
