The Planned Care Division is led by the Divisional Medical Director, Divisional Director of Operations and Divisional Director of Nursing using the triumvirate model of leadership. The Key Services delivered by this Division are Emergency and Elective Surgery, Intensive Care and Burns all of which are delivered through the busy but well organised and supported wards and departments.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative leader who will help support us through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Due to recent promotion within the nursing leadership team this exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented individual with multiple skills and an appetite for delivering a first class nursing service to join the team in one of the UKs most successful and progressive NHS Foundation Trusts. We are looking for a senior nurse to join our team on the Chelsea and Westminster Site. The role entails overseeing and leading our adult and children inpatient ward as well as outpatients.



· The post holder will lead and be responsible for the delivery of high quality care and the patient experience in their areas through proactive clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within their clinical area of responsibility. The post holder will need to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence based, compassionate nursing care, and that the workforce is managed efficiently and effectively.



· The post holder will ensure ward sisters have adequate support to enable them to focus on their core responsibilities.



· The post holder will contribute to the on-going implementation of the Trust’s nursing, midwifery and corporate objectives, developing the service and nursing roles to meet the evolving needs of patients and families.



· The individual will undertake the key functions of the Matron Role ensuring the patient experience in wards/ departments is of the highest possible standard at all times with particular emphasis on the provision of dignified and compassionate care which is delivered in a safe and clean environment.



· The post holder will work with the Divisional Nurse and the Senior Management Team in developing and implementing a divisional strategy to achieve the Trust’s objectives and ensure that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained.

Management
• To provide professional leadership and line management to senior Nursing staff including ward and departmental Sisters & Charge Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Practitioners
• To ensure that all direct reports have an annual appraisal with periodic reviews, and have a current personal development plan (PDP).
• To develop and lead a recruitment and retention strategy for Nursing and Support Workers in collaboration with the Divisional Human Resource Team, Divisional Nurse and departmental leads.
• To participate in the recruitment of staff to meet the needs of the service, in liaison with ward and department leads, and the Divisional Human Resources team as appropriate
• To ensure that staff records are maintained by the Ward/ Department Manager and that the registration status of nurses is verified, taking appropriate action when staff fail to maintain this.
• To manage any issues of performance, capability and conduct relating to direct reports in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, in liaison with the Divisional Human Resources team
• To support and advise direct reports in the management of conflict, performance, capability and conduct issues within their teams and services in liaison with the Divisional Human Resources team and to undertake HR investigations and disciplinary hearings as and when required.
• To act as a role model in promoting equality of opportunity amongst staff in line with the Trust’s Equality and Diversity policy as well as conducting equality impact assessments on policy and/or service changes.
• To enable consultation, engagement and ownership amongst Ward and Departmental Leads, ensuring that they are informed of organisational and divisional changes and that their views and concerns are represented
• To ensure that local policies, protocols and guidelines are developed and reviewed to reflect best practice, and that staff are informed of changes and work within these.
• To participate in the business planning process for the Division/Directorate in liaison with the Divisional Management Team, participate in forming business cases and lead in related practice / service developments across the Trust.
• To lead the review and re-design of patent pathways and services to ensure that these meet the changing needs of patients whilst optimising resources.
• To establish the views of patients and families, promote patient and public involvement in the evaluation and improvement of services and be responsible for the review of patient satisfaction surveys to influence service development.
• To enable multi professional and multi-agency collaborative working to support service and practice development which is centred on the needs of patients
• To oversee Ward and Departmental Leads in the effective management of pay and non-pay budgets for the Division/ Directorate ensuring the efficient and effective use of staffing resources and supplies to achieve a balanced budget.
• Review and monitor roster arrangements to ensure most effective and efficient use of the staffing resource. Ensuring that rosters are approved in line with the Trust’s roster policy.
• To participate in the Trustwide Establishment Review process taking lead responsibility for ensuring the ward areas are compliant with the process and ensuring timely provision of information in line with the review expectations and National Quality Board Requirements
• To investigate complaints and prepare responses to any issues or concerns raised by patients and families in liaison with the PALS and Complaints Team as requested by the Divisional Nurse.
• To ensure potential risks for staff, patients and visitors are identified and that incident reporting procedures are adhered to. To conduct investigations into adverse Incidents and ensure appropriate action is taken
• In agreement with the Lead Nurse/Divisional Nurse, represent the division at appropriate Trustwide meetings and take the lead on specific streams of work as required.
• To participate in Divisional, Trust and external meetings and represent the Divisional Nurse when required.
• To participate in providing a 7 day clinical service with other Matrons and act in the absence of the Divisional Nurse and provide cross cover for other Divisional Senior Nurses as required.

Clinical


• To work in clinical practice for a minimum of 20 per cent of the time, providing clinical expertise and leadership to the team
• To undertake daily ward rounds and obtain real time patient feedback; liaise with the person in charge of the unit to assess the environment with regards to cleanliness and clinical standards.
• To ensure the provision of safe, high quality care and treatment for all patients which is delivered within agreed standards, protocols and guidelines.
• Tomonitor performance across wards and departments against agreed nursing and clinical indicators and to plan improvement and development in liaison with Ward and Department leads.
• To ensure that there is a robust approach to clinical incident reporting, investigation and action planning.

• To ensure that policies and procedures relating to infection prevention and control are followed and that practice is audited in line with the Trust approach.
• To ensure that policies and procedures relating to Medicines Management are followed and that practice is audited in line with the Trust approach

• To ensure that standards of environmental cleaning are maintained in liaison with the Trust Estates and Facilities Service, and that corrective action is taken if this falls below defined standards
• To ensure that the standard of clinical documentation is maintained and that this is audited in line with Trust guidelines.
• To participate in the on-going development of clinical data systems
• To identify opportunities for the team to develop their roles and scope of practice to meet the evolving needs of patients and the service.
• To ensure clinical representation in appropriate Trust forums and working groups, and the dissemination of information across the service.

• To provide mentorship, coaching, supervision and shadowing opportunities to individuals in order to support their development
