You will put in place strategies that support pupils to engage in the curriculum and will be responsible for supporting learning activities for individuals and small groups. This will include supporting the emotional needs of our young people as well as their academic needs; preparing resources; and creating a safe, autism friendly environment. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who works well with others. Skills and experience of working with young people who have communication & interaction needs/ autism would be of benefit, however, there will be a full induction programme for new staff and additional training where required. What is important to us is commitment to our overall ethos and approach. This is also an ideal position for someone wishing to work in a school to gain additional experience before following a career in teaching, educational psychology or speech and language therapy. As a result of their special educational needs, many of our students will struggle with emotional regulation and this can lead to significant challenging behaviours. Candidates need to be prepared to adopt a problem-solving approach to the challenges that those young people bring. N.B. During the summer we are running induction training that is provided to all new staff before joining the school. There are 5 days of induction and we have sessions on the following weeks - you will need to be able to attend one of these induction weeks: ● Monday 15th July to Friday 19th July ● Monday 12th August to Friday 16th August The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and subject to a check being carried out at an Enhanced level by the Disclosure and Barring Service regarding any previous criminal record.
