It is an extraordinary time for the specialist perinatal mental health services (SPMHT) across the UK with growing national and local focus on service development and access for new and expectant mums. The national ambition is to improve outcomes for an increasing number women through evidence based interventions and resources and broadening of interventions available. Mental health family group conference model (MHFGC) is one of the interventions in the care of women their support network and families that the perinatal service offers.

The Essex SPMHT has successfully established a service in the community over the past seven years and we are embedding the (MHFGC) model within the service, using this model to support the needs and recovery of more women across Essex through the use of strengths based care planning. An opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical lead to join our dedicated team of experts in this field and lead in the implementation of this model supporting the think family approach in perinatal care.

SMHT operate from 5 hubs across Essex, providing specialist assessment and intervention for women at risk of serious mental illness or complex disorders within the county of Essex. The candidate will lead in the delivery of MHFGC model across the Essex specialist Community perinatal mental health service, offering women across Essex the MHFGC model, working with services to empower women and their support network to take a lead role in their recovery and care.

The post holder will work closely with Team Managers/Clinical Managers across EPUT Perinatal service and partner organisations to develop an understanding and promote the use of MH Family Group Conference (FGC) within the teams. The post holder will carry responsibility for the day to day operations of the EPUT perinatal Essex wide Adult Perinatal Mental Health Family Group Conference as directed by, and in collaboration with the Leadership Team.

The post holder will engage proactively with the transforming Perinatal mental health services to meet the requirements of the NHS Long Term Plan. The post holder will liaise with referring practitioners/teams and support an understanding of the FGC model/process to support strengths based care planning for individuals who are in receipt of services and their families.

The post holder will role model how to deal with sensitive and complex information as individuals who use services and their family come together to understand and support each other. Fundamental to the role is the promotion and further development of the service in conjunction with other community and non-statutory organisation to ensure integrated provision of care.

To manage the day to day delivery of the FGC service across EPUT Perinatal service

Take on FGC coordinator role (Perinatal Mental Health) in adult Mental Health for the highly complex cases within the service.

To ensure high quality delivery of the FGC process across EPUT Perinatal service. Managing the EPUT budget for this FGC team.

You will have responsibility for the day to day supervision and management of staff within the team. This will include the management of these staff in line with agreed Trust HR processes.

Work within the FGC framework to improve and maintain the quality of life for those with enduring and severe mental illness in recovery planning, decision making and Adult and child safeguarding concerns.

Ensure Performance and Activity targets are met as required for both Health Commissioners, and EPUT, as required.

Monitor risk management within the team, environment, staff, service delivery

Adhere to the requirement of the Trust’s safeguarding policy proactively working with the safeguarding team and ensuring any safeguarding conferences follow the agreed protocol.

Carry out good quality and consultations with service users identified networks.

To appropriately support the integration of carers and service users in their conferences

Ensure the development of FGC service provision and training

Provide a high quality professional service for FGC’s in adult Mental Health.

Maintain an up to date record of activity on case files in accordance with professional accountability and trust record systems, evaluate and adapt these as required to ensure high quality practice

Participate in case discussions, case conferences, planning meetings across the trust

Being aware of and implement good practice, an anti-oppressive approach, and work in partnership with service users and their families as far as possible, treating all consumers with respect and dignity.
