Location: Based at County Hall North, Horsham, with countywide travel.

As a Family Housing Options Support Worker, you will be working in in the Accommodation Team within the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). You will review information quickly to establish the next steps for families, provide housing advice and guidance to professionals across children's services, other agencies and to parent/carers. Where a duty is owed to a family under the Children Act and/or Care Act, you will assist children's social care in sourcing and facilitating temporary accommodation placements. Being both organised and adaptable, you will have the ability to respond to complex situations calmly and effectively.

This particular role will work in collaboration with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to help find solutions to a diverse range of challenges. Wherever possible, you will develop local solutions that are owned and managed by the households being assisted.

You will be working directly with families and children, going to their homes, and completing robust assessments of their financial situations and legal status in order to ensure that they receive the correct support to reach financial and residential independence at their earliest opportunity.

About You

To be successful in this role you need to:

  • have a passion for working with young people, children and their families in housing crisis, and the ability to work with those experiencing stressful situations.
  • Be able to interpret complex information, and communicate it appropriately and effectively to a range of audiences.
  • Have the ability to focus for lengthy periods over a range of different activities in order to determine how to meet future needs of children.
  • Thrive on working independently and on your own initiative.
  • Have a desire to work with families who are subject to immigration control, liaising with the Home Office, specialist advisory services and legal representatives.
  • Develop effective working relationships and be able to communicate with various stakeholders.

The MASH works with a range of agencies to identify risks to families who need support. The Accommodation Team as part of MASH assessing and identify the support needed so children and families receive this at the earliest opportunity.
