Summary

Do you have technical experience in the built environment? Are you a collaborative and motivational leader?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is the largest and most complex museum estate in the country. It houses a scientific collection of international significance. Across the Group, the Masterplan department leads the development of the long-term vision for each of the Group's sites, in collaboration with the Museums' Directors.

To support the delivery of this work, we are now seeking a Head of Capital Projects on a permanent basis, based at our museums in London, Manchester or York, but with a group-wide remit.

About the role

The Head of Capital Projects will lead a team of Project Managers at our museums in London, Bradford, Manchester and York to deliver a programme of estate works that will significantly improve the Group's operations, efficiency and sustainability by addressing the historic underinvestment in the museums' estate. A key focus will be on driving forward the completion of existing projects as well as planning the next programme, which will start in April 2025. The current programme is the most impactful and challenging the Group has delivered to date: over £30 million will be spent in the next 18 months on heritage fabric repair projects, M&E infrastructure and compliance projects. Many of these will be undertaken in a live environment and alongside other construction activity.

you will lead and develop your team to ensure integration of the capital programme with the sites' masterplanning activity, ensuring the capital investment is well considered and delivers towards our long-term plans. You will be accountable for the successful delivery of the programme, in all aspects of quality, time and cost.
