Summary

Responsibilities Work with the Head of Nursing, clinical support services Manager and Clinical managers to lead and develop nurse led remote services which will include the development of a workforce plan. Provide line management for staff as requested by the clinical support Services Clinical manager. Undertake appraisals and return to work meetings as requested by the clinical support Services Clinical manager. Escalate performance concerns/Human resources processes requiring management to the clinical support Services Clinical manager. Identify training needs through the appraisal process and to Support with the development of training programmes/competency packages to ensure all staff reach their full potential. Work with the Clinical managers to oversee a training plan to support the development of Nurse led Remote services to include the identification of training needs through the appraisal process and to develop a training programme to ensure all staff reach their full potential. This will include the development of a competency assessment framework to support new roles and skills and ensure that all staff are able to provide a safe patient care. Deputise for the Clinical support services Manager to provide and manage remote services care as appropriate. Assist in the development and implementation of guidelines, protocols and remote services policies and procedures. Ensure that resources are used effectively, efficiently, and appropriately. Work with the clinical Manager to ensure remote services are fully compliant with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission, the RSOPs for termination services and NUPAS policies and procedures. Work with the clinical Manager to ensure that all contractual obligations are met. Provide good leadership and management and promote a positive working culture within the team and NUPAS. To work in collaboration with regional Clinical Leads and clinical support services clinical manager as appropriate. Act as a professional role model for the team. Escalate any concerns or complaints that are raised, utilising a just culture approach. Ensure that any learning is shared within the team. Complete audits as required in line with NUPAS policies. Update the rota where required including covering for absence and sickness. Patient Care Assess and implement programmes of care for patients in accordance with appropriate care pathways and national and local guidelines and evaluate their effectiveness. Assist with the Co-ordination of the clinical support services across NUPAS to ensure the delivery of timely, informative, and high-quality care. Deliver high quality patient care in line with local and national guidelines. Always Working within own scope of professional practice. Deliver safe and effective aftercare, sexual and reproductive healthcare advice and care. Uphold and ensure best practice with a shared approach to decision making, maintain individual right to dignity and respect. Also aim to ensure the teamwork within this culture and manage behaviours outside of this expectation accordingly. Ensure the full, accurate and timely completion of all patient documentation in line with professional bodies and NUPAS standards. Assist the Clinical manager in maintaining appropriate levels of staff and skill mix for service delivery. Support the Clinical Manager to monitor and act upon patient feedback, within the team to ensure seamless learning and improvements in patient care provisions across NUPAS. To always maintain and uphold the professional image of NUPAS, advocating pro-choice. Oversee and support staff to safeguard patients, including audit to ensure the team are undertaking safe and effective safeguarding assessments. Qualifications Essential Registered nurse or registered midwife Up to date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health/TOP/Gynaecological service. Desirable Recognised qualification in Independent/Supplementary Prescribing. Ultrasound scanning experience in first and second stage trimester. Training in contraception Experience providing clinical advice over the phone/remotely to patients. Skills To provide remote clinical support to patients who are calling the 24-hour patient support line To effectively triage post abortion aftercare calls, giving sound, safe and quality advice to a broad patient base with varying questions and concerns. Using clinical judgment and verbal skills to identify when a patient is deteriorating or needs prompt emergency care and escalating/referring appropriately. Booking patients into NUPAS post treatment appointments for further assessment, undertaking assessment to ensure shared decision-making approaches are utilised, and informed consent is therefore gained. Ensuring the patients care is documented clearly, factually, and timely on Electronic Patient Records. Effective time management skills, considering priority and timing of patient contact required. Referral to the safeguarding team if concerns arise and when needed. Refer patients into NUPAS counselling service if needed. Sign posting and supporting patient to access other relevant services if needed and when relevant. Give support, guidance and facilitate a smooth, timely and efficient service for patient requiring specialist placement. Using communication skills and an empathetic approach when talking to patients and ensuring you can deliver information in a way that they understand. Ensuring all relevant medical information, scan reports, blood results, GP correspondence and other results are available/requested for outside referral or review by NUPAS medical team. Checking details on patient notes and alerting Doctor/surgeon/anaesthetist to any significant conditions. Screening patient notes to ensure they need referral and liaising with NUPAS medical team to accommodate patients who can be treated safely within our service with adjustment/s or extra support. Ability to work under pressure to be able to prioritise and place calls and refer women to NHS/other services. Maintenance of patient safety. Maintenance of patient confidentiality and DATA protection. Safeguarding Safeguarding Children and Adults is everyones responsibility.In order to protect children and vulnerable adults, all staff are required to be familiar with and adhere to the NUPAS Safeguarding Policy. It is the responsibility of the post holder to minimise the NUPASs environmental impact wherever possible. This will include switching off lights, computers, monitors, and other non-essential equipment when not in use. Helping to minimise business travel, reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying, correct waste disposal, reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly. Patient Experience The post holder will have a duty to ensure that the principles of patient, carer and public involvement and engagement are adhered to in line with Section 11 of The Health and Social Care Act 2012 for Improving Patient Experience. All staff are required to adhere to the principles of patient centred care as detailed in the NICE Quality Standard for Patient Experience and to treat patients with dignity, kindness, compassion, courtesy, respect, understanding and honesty. The post holder will, in support of the NUPAS Values & Values and ensure that everyone is treated as an individual and will acknowledge and value difference in order to treat everyone fairly. Management and Professional Development Ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory training requirements and ensure that all clinical support services staff across the region comply with the requirements. Provide induction, training and support to new staff and ensure that their development needs are appropriately met. Undertake appraisals with clinical support services staff as requested by the clinical manager, to identify development needs and set objectives for the year. Ensure reviews are carried out during the year. Support the Clinical manager to monitor compliance of training and appraisals across the clinical support services team. Manage issues and concerns regarding staff performance and conduct in line with NUPAS policies and procedures. Support and engage with clinical supervision across the service for NUPAS remote staff. Engage in your own clinical supervision for professional development In conjunction with the clinical Manager, ensure learning needs have beenidentified through the appraisal process and there is an effective training plan put in place To manage own workload effectively in line with NUPAS visions and values. Adopt an open and honest approach to raising concerns, and escalate staff concerns as required. To participate in clinical meetings and ensure seamless communication organisationally relating to remote services. To undertake any other tasks which are commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the post.
