Summary
Reports to: Clinical Psychologist and Unit Manager Purpose of Role: To support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients within the service; promote a psychologically informed approach to patients; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of relevant policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit projects, teaching and project work. Key Responsibilities: Core Function Clinical To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of patients applying psychological, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients and others involved in the patients care. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a patients problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist. To assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups, or run one-to-one sessions for individuals if relevant. To work with other staff to assess and review patients progress in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews. To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all patients of the service, across all settings where care takes place. To attend and contribute to appropriate professional and multi-disciplinary meetings. Teaching, Training and Supervision In common with all clinical psychologists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines Make use of supervision and training opportunities to develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties. Management, Recruitment and Service Development To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required. To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed. Service Evaluation To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes To undertake literature searches and other research to assist qualified psychologists in developing and delivering evidence-based practice. General Functions To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holders professional and team/operational manager(s). To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society, HCPC and Manton Heights policies and procedures. To prepare test materials and visual aids as required. To undertake specific administrative duties as required To perform other duties of a similar kind appropriate to the role, which may be required from time to time by their Line Manager or Supervisor. Technical Competencies Assessment Primary Level Formulation Primary level Intervention Primary Level Evaluation/ Research Primary Level Teaching/ Supervision/ Consultation Primary Level Required skills, qualifications and experience: Essential Selection Criteria - Upper second class honours degree or higher in Psychology (or equivalent) - Eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society - Experience of working as a member of a team - Ability to work flexibly and independently, and show resilience. - Strong motivation and drive to succeed - Computer skills (word processing and data analysis skills using SPSS) - Demonstrates an awareness of equality issues and commitments to the aims and objectives of the policy in employment and patient care. Desirable Selection Criteria - Relevant post graduate qualification e.g. Masters degree in relevant subject - Awareness or experience of cognitive behavioural therapy through training or experience in relevant clinical interventions - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including ability to confidently present results of assessments at review and other meetings - Demonstrated experience of working with people with complex needs and/or challenging behaviour - Demonstrated experience of the design, implementation and evaluation of applied psychology interventions - Demonstrated experience in the administration and scoring of psychometric tests - Clinical experience of working with mental health difficulties under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist - Experience in a relevant role, for example, Assistant Psychologist elsewhere, IAPT therapist, etc.
