Summary


Applications are invited forsubstantiveconsultantposts with as main interests in GeneralSubspecialties andTrauma Anaesthesia.This is afull time post at10 PAswith8.5PAs for direct clinical care and 1.5PAsfor SPA in support of personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal and revalidation. (Up to foursubstantiveposts are available).


Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experienceas described in the person specification in the job plan description. They should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their expected CCT date at the time of interview.Experience of NHS working practices and systems, (minimumtwoyearsworking for the NHS) is essential.

Specialist skillsrequiredinclude advanced training inperioperative medicine,traumaand regional anaesthesia.A proportion of the workload(flexible annualised sessions)has tobedelivered atprime-timehours, at weekends and/or in the evenings. The workload during general on-calls does notordinarilyinclude obstetrics,paeds, ITU,majortrauma, neuro, cardiac, which are all covered by separate consultant rotas.However, at times when workload exceedsmanpower, you may be asked to help consultant colleagues on different rotas (example major trauma, obstetrics). We will support applicants to pursue their subspecialty interests, as far aspracticable.






The post holder will join the General Group of Anaesthetists which consists of approximately 35 Consultantsand the Trauma Anaesthetists (approx.14). We are afriendly, approachable,dynamicand diverse group, who are enthusiastic in both teaching colleagues and learning new skills from colleagues. There is emphasis in wellbeing and supporting each other. The case mix at St George’s tends to be complex and challenging. Given the hugeexpertisein the department, it is easy to seek adviceanddiscuss with an expert in a certain field oracquirenew skills. This isa great opportunitytojoinouraward-winninganaesthetic department, which isa highlydiverse and inclusiveworkforceofover 100Anaesthetic Consultants providingexpertisein a wide variety of anaesthetic subspecialties includingPaediatrics, Neurosurgery, Cardio-thoracics, Intensive Care, Acute andChronicPainreliefand academic positions in SGUL.There areover 60 trainees fromSt George’s School of Anaesthesia and clinical fellows who rotate through theanaesthesiasubspecialties.

The successful applicant will need commitment, enthusiasm, leadership qualities and the ability to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team.


The post holder willbe requiredtoparticipatein clinical governance activities within the service centre.


The post holder will be expected toobservethe trust’s agreed policies and procedures drawn up with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust.
