Summary
The Incubator for Artificial Intelligence (i.AI) - is an AI for public good programme which exists to harness the opportunities presented by AI to improve the lives of citizens. It focuses on priority projects across the whole of public services. We are a technical team, focussed on building things and learning quickly what works.
Building on the work of No10 Data Science Team (10DS) and other leading technology teams across the civil service, i.AI will experiment and prove what is possible. It was recently announced that i.AI will expand a further 40 roles to build a scale up function, which will take successful incubated projects into production.

We are seeking a talented Senior Cloud Engineer to join our leading AI team. You will collaborate with AI engineers, researchers and other roles to develop, architect and implement a data platform that will power our cutting-edge AI products and services.
This is a radical innovation team, and we hire team members who are collaborative, energetic, and are motivated to “get stuff done”, as well as being optimistic big picture thinkers. This role is perfect for somebody looking to operate in a start-up environment, using their skills and experience in central Government to make things happen for the public good. You will be expected to take initiative, playing a convening function to bring together the whole team, and make i.AI the best it can be. This might mean working outside of your direct remit, for example getting stuck into AI projects, or operational management of the team - if this sounds exciting, we’d love to hear from you!
Role and Responsibilities
- Build and design cutting-edge cloud architecture that can support rapid development of in-house prototypes and then be rolled out and leveraged across government for transformational impact across the public sector.
- Support the team to develop our AI capability and build out a modern and flexible architecture that can be leveraged for a whole variety of projects.
- Collaborate across the civil service working with existing technical solutions and understand how to best build into existing architectures.
- Build robust and secure infrastructure that is capable of meeting security standards when handling sensitive data.
- Work flexibly with all team members to deliver on the mission of i.AI - to harness the power of AI for the public good. This means sometimes you will be working outside of your direct brief.
- Support the effective performance of the team by promoting diversity, inclusion, regular, honest and constructive feedback, and supporting continuous improvement.
