Summary


We are looking for a motivated clinician with a passion to explore research. This pre-doctoral position is designed to build capacity in community child health academic research and to offer a talented and committed individual research training in this area. This might include work in all aspects and roles across clinical academic research, from designing trials and managing data to conducting practical research in a clinical setting and there will also be an opportunity to complete a PhD application by end of this post.

They will also promote research to clinicians, service users, and the wider NHS community

The post holder will report and be accountable to Prof Michelle Heys, Honorary Consultant Paediatrician (ELFT) and NIHR Global Health Professor in Community and Population Child Health (UCL) who has a particular interest in health services research, participatory approaches and working with vulnerable groups, including Specialist Children and Young People's Services SCYP with complex neurodisability.

· To explore an area of interest in clinical research in community child health, through learning how to articulate a research question, exploring existing evidence and describing possible research methodologies to address the question

· To support if required and of interest a range of research projects currently running in community child health. This might include supporting data collection, analysis and write up.

· To organise and run stakeholder workshops to continue to grow public and patient involvement in research in SCYPS

· To contribute to preparation and submission of future grant applications

· To be involved in the publication and dissemination/ utilisation of findings

· To support a shift in culture towards a research literate service through championing research – for example through the organization of monthly research related teaching to the wider team (e.g. inviting internal and external speakers to give short presentations of their work).The role will also include research administrative duties.

• Ensure that any data collection is conducted according to specific research protocols and adheres to the Data Protection Act 1998 and according to ICH Good Clinical Practice guidelines
• Collect qualitative and quantitative data as require
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team at SCYPS, especially the Autism team to develop good working relationships with the team, and make use of discussions with principal investigators and other study team members as appropriate.
• Attend and contribute to project management group meetings for specific research projects both at SCYPS and also with the PI’s research team at UCL
• Be involved in the publication and dissemination/utilisation of findings.
• Exchange information with principal investigators and negotiate decisions on possible difficulties as they arise in running of the projects being supported.
• Project, receive and present information about projects to other team members/ staff/ peers within the Trust, NIHR, etc.
• Work with the PI to prepare reports to funders on the progress of the research progress and work with the finance department to produce spending reports.
• Work with the PI to prepare reports and make presentations to the service user advisory boards and any other stakeholders.
• Make original contributions to the research programme wherever possible, and to contribute freely to the team research environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research projects as a whole. • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant child health practice and to disseminate up to date information, protocol amendments etc. to personnel working on research projects
• Work at all times according to Good Clinical Practice and Trust guidelines; comply with Research Ethics Committee and Research Governance guidelines.
• Maintain position of integrity, appreciating the need for confidentiality when dealing with staff and issues appertaining to this post
• Comply with the Data Protection Act, ensuring that its provisions are maintained in all aspects of research, including maintaining appropriate databases, keeping accurate written and computerised records and to ensure that these records are stored in a secure place, and to maintain confidentiality of all electronically stored personal data.
