Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust (LUHFT) for a theatre matron who will play a key role in managing the theatre departments at the Royal Liverpool Hospital site. This post will require a forward thinking and enthusiastic individual who will help to shape and embed the theatre model in the New Hospital.
As part of the management team within the theatres and anaesthesia care group your role will be fundamental in developing an integrated Theatre service for LUHFT. This role will be pivotal in the planning, implementation and delivery of an integrated service. You will provide visionary supportive and challenging leadership to enthusiastic and experienced multi professional teams.
The Matron role is pivotal in supporting the delivery of our vision. Working within the framework of the modern matron principles, your key role will be to ensure clinical quality standards are achieved. This will be demonstrated through inspirational and visible clinical leadership to the nursing teams working within the care group. Working with a number of colleagues you will be responsible for leading the teams and department managers and assuring delivery of a modernised, high quality, safe, effective, evidence based nursing service.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

Accountable to Chief Nurse the post holder will be an integral member of the speciality management team for designated specialities within the Care Group.
The post holder will provide support to the Care Group’s senior leadership team by ensuring that the highest quality of care and clinical excellence is achieved and maintained in a range of wards and departments. Working collaboratively with teams within their Care Group and Division and also across the other clinical Divisions.
The post holder will also work closely with external partners, patients, patient representatives, relatives, and carers.
The post holder will provide strong clinical leadership on the quality of care provided, and cleanliness of the environment and will role model a quality driven, and caring and compassionate leadership style, upholding the standards and values of the Nursing/AHP profession at all times.
The Matron will ensure that operational plans and performance are closely managed, by proactively leading and providing solutions to resolve difficult operational issues, in accordance with agreed Trust objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints, promptly escalating issues which are unable to be resolved.
TheMatronwill have significant experience in leading teams, and will possess leadership skills to deal competently with difficult issues ensuring that policy is implemented, and performance managed on behalf of the senior leadership team.
Working under direction the post holder will implement patient centred clinical and Nursing/AHP operational strategy and plans, ensuring that systems and processes are in place to comply with relevant legislation and governance requirements, including linking with external bodies such as commissioners when required, utilising the expertise and skills of the wider Divisional team.
As a member of the management team, the Matron contributes to strategic direction and policy setting for the Care Group, forming an essential two-way communications link between the Care Group and staff in the wards and departments, ensuring that key messages, team brief etc. are shared and discussed.
They will demonstrate a coaching style of leadership, ensuring that staff and stakeholder engagement is in place, and action taken to address issues.
The post holder will have line management responsibility for Ward Managers and/or Band 7 Clinical AHP’s/Specialist Nurses.
There will also be a requirement for the post holder to deputise for the lead nurse as and when required.
