Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist

Hackney Integrated Learning Disabilities Service (ILDS)

Fixed term contract for 6 months / ELFT internal secondment will also be welcomed.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and enthusiastic Specialist Occupational Therapist within our Integrated Learning Disabilities Service (ILDS) in the London Borough of Hackney. The service includes a dynamic, multidisciplinary, integrated team of health and social care professionals, providing a high quality community service for adults with Learning Disabilities.

The post holder will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to promote independence and meaningful engagement for adults with Learning Disabilities, many of whom have additional mental health difficulties, behaviours that challenge, sensory processing dysfunction and/or physical disabilities.

The post holder will support the Occupational Therapy team, ensuring work is evidence-based and of a high standard as well as contributing to the eligibility pathway and service development initiatives within Occupational Therapy and across the wider ILDS team.

This is a fixed term contract (6 months), ELFT internal secondment will also be welcomed.

This Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapy post is part of a health and social care multidisciplinary team and key responsibilities include:
1. Providing specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions for adults with a learning disability to promote independence and meaningful engagement using a targeted outcome focused person centred approach.
2. Managing a caseload of service users with varying and often multiple health and social care needs. Some may have additional mental health difficulties, behaviours that challenge, sensory processing dysfunction and/or physical disabilities.
3. Working as an autonomous Occupational Therapist within a community setting.

It is essential that applicants have experience of and an enthusiasm for working with adults who have Learning Disabilities. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, a proactive approach, prioritisation and problem solving skills as well as experience in assessing and managing risks.

The post holder will be supported through regular supervision, in-house training and CPD opportunities. The successful applicant for the post must be a Registered Occupational Therapist [HCPC] with demonstrable clinical experience and evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
