What will the successful candidate be doing:

The RTG (Remote Technologies Group) Equipment Engineer develops and maintains expertise on assigned equipment types and uses this knowledge to ensure that the overall performance, safety, condition and associated documentation of assigned equipment are maintained to a high standard. This equipment is split across three types, UAVs-ROVs & Robotic Manipulators. By developing and maintaining expertise on these equipment types and providing support and coaching to plant personnel, they ensure that the equipment is operated and maintained to appropriate standards. The Equipment Engineer will serve as the Engineering and Maintenance organisations Subject Matter Expert (SME) on technical aspects of the equipment types assigned to them. Deliverables These deliverables will be to support and compliment the overall programme at a strategic level for the Specialist Equipment Services Programme.

* Defining, standardising and/or supporting the introduction of Remote Technology Equipment under Category Management including directly liaising with contractors to improve maintainability, standardising equipment hierarchy, enabling documentation, TBoM regime etc.

* Standardisation of definition and delivery of Maintenance across Remote Technology Equipment types.

* Defining the standard for and/or support delivery of independent Mechanical & Electrical technical reviews of Remote Technology Equipment to highlight any potential shortfalls.

* Lead on and/or support baseline configuration, spares and obsolescence reviews for agreed site Categorised Remote Technology Equipment.

* Ensure Management Systems and Maintenance best practice are developed and implemented in line with appropriate modern internal and external standards and guidance.

* Monitor activities on components to identify those that contribute to system unavailability and make recommendations for improvements at an Enterprise level.

* Work effectively with teams across Directorates to ensure that the support provided meets customer needs with regards to Categorised Remote Technology Equipment.

* Identifying and analysing problems (especially recurring ones) with Remote Technology Equipment components and initiate appropriate corrective actions to achieve short and long-term resolution at an Enterprise level.

* Establishing methods of, and/or carrying out monitoring and analysis of Remote Technology Equipment performance/trends site wide to identify improvements in efficiency and reliability to meet the Enterprise mission.

* Assist in or review performance of special tests and review results for evaluation of Remote Technology Equipment performance.

* Influence and/or input into the development of new engineering solutions for Categorised Remote Technology Equipment that enables the efficient achievement of Sellafield objectives in line with external best practice.

* Direct the development of new engineering solutions for Categorised Remote Technology Equipment that enables the efficient achievement of Sellafield objectives in line with external best practice.

* Provide site wide technical Categorised Remote Technology Equipment support as requested to resolve Equipment related issues at an Enterprise level following escalation to maintain Equipment availability.

* To provide SME support to the RTG training requirements in the form of developing the training strategy, helping to develop the course content and delivery of course (where required).

The Ideal Candidate: We're looking for candidates with the following knowledge and experience:

* Higher level qualification in an engineering or scientific subject with relevant engineering and or maintenance experience

* Eng Tech or Incorporated Engineer status, or potential to achieve this.

* Ability to translate technical concepts and provide specialist guidance and advice to others on a wide range of remote technology both platforms and payloads.

Essential Skills:

* Higher level qualification in an engineering or scientific subject with relevant engineering and/or maintenance experience

* Evidence of Identifying and analysing problems (especially recurring ones) with Remote Technology Equipment components and initiate appropriate corrective actions to achieve short and long-term resolution

* Experience of working to industry standards

* Demonstrable expertise in one or more Remote Technology equipment types

* Evidence of communicating best practice and learning from experience.

Desirable Skills:

* Professionally registered at either Eng Tech or I-Eng level or ability to achieve professional registration.

* Knowledge of operation or integration of remote handling technologies.

* Experience of piloting and or operating remote handling equipment including land or water based ROVs, UAVs and or robotic manipulators.
