Summary
We're a housing association that provides more than 60,000 people in Sunderland with a place they can call home. We're a values-driven organisation, with a clear vision, a social purpose and a commitment to investing in people, place and property. We believe everyone has the right to live in a good quality home they can afford and invest millions of pounds every year in keeping our existing homes safe, secure, and compliant.
We're also playing our part in addressing the UK housing crisis locally, by building hundreds of new, modern and contemporary homes for rent in Sunderland - homes that meet the needs of local people. Not only do we provide vital housing - we support our tenants, residents and communities by investing in services that help people live their best possible life.
This includes helping people to work, victims of domestic abuse and anti-social behaviour, young people to live independently, as well as a wellbeing service that supports our elderly tenants and residents.
About the role:
Gentoo is committed to holding robust and up-to-date stock condition and energy data on our homes. This data is the foundation to ensuring our customers live in safe, decent homes for today and tomorrow, and ensures investment at the right time. Our current stock condition and energy team undertake over 6000 stock condition surveys per year in our customers’ homes.
Due to a change in strategy for the collection of stock condition and energy data, Gentoo will now undertake EPC surveys of all homes using our internal team. Where appropriate, we will look to combine stock condition and EPC surveys to minimise disruption for customers. Gentoo is also committed to ensuring all homes achieve EPC C by 2030, and that all homes meet the Decent Homes Standard.
We have a significant investment programme in our existing homes, and getting this right, is based on the data in our Asset Management system. A key fundamental to making this a reality is having accurate energy performance and stock condition data for our homes. Our aim is to visit our homes and assess their condition as frequently as possible.
To achieve this strategy, we are delighted to be investing in and increasing our team of Stock Condition and Energy Surveyors, so are recruiting an additional team member.
The key responsibilities of this role will include:
Conducting high quality stock condition surveys considering Decent Homes and HHSRS, and highlighting any potential issues via the Group’s monitoring process
Undertaking energy performance assessments as required to ensure the Group has current and accurate records of energy performance of its housing stock
Completing asset data collection exercises to support the creation of the Group’s investment plan
Undertaking validation exercises to aid the improvement of stock condition and energy data in the Group’s Asset Management and Energy databases

HNC/D in relevant building industry qualification or demonstrable relevant experience
Level 3 Domestic Energy Assessor (desirable or willingness to achieve)
Level 4 Competency Qualification (desirable) in commercial energy assessments
A Full Driving Licence
Experience and skills required:
Knowledge of the requirements of the Decent Homes and associated Regulatory Standards and how these relate to stock data and of legislation relating to energy performance certificates, particularly legislation affecting the social housing sector.
Knowledge of energy efficiency and environmental improvements together with associated data requirements.
Current experience and ability to accurately gather and record information for energy assessments, stock condition and HHSRS surveys, using both handheld technology and Microsoft Excel.
Experience of working as part of a team to meet defined objectives or targets.
