Summary

UE06 Salary Range: £32,982 – £38,205 pro rata (£18.07-£20.93 per hour)

USG- Student Recruitment and Admissions/ LEAPS

Fixed Term/Guaranteed Hours: 100 hours over the 25 teaching weeks, between the months of August 2024 – March 2025. This equates to approx. 4 hours per week plus training and marking.

LEAPS are recruiting current postgraduate students who are passionate about higher education and looking for a rewarding, part-time, paid position. You will be working online and on the University of Edinburgh campus with groups of current S6 pupils to help them develop skills and confidence to become successful undergraduate students.

The LEAPS S6 Transition Course is the latest of the many initiatives in which we have worked with current university students to help students bridge the gap between school and university.

To tutor students on the LEAPS S6 Transitions Course –through online learning platforms and on the UoE central campus: to raise awareness and aspiration of Higher Education (HE) as an option; to support students’ development in the key skills required for successful first year study at a Higher Education Institution.

If you are successful following interview, you MUST be available for training in mid-August and the course induction (see dates below). Note that training is likely to be a combination of in-person, asynchronous and live online sessions. The full format will be confirmed closer to the time.

Provisional Training Dates:

Thurs 15th August (times tbc)

Thurs 22nd August (times tbc)

Fri 23rd August 10.00-11.00 – tutor briefing

Course Induction: Thurs 29th August (on-campus, times tbc)

Employment commences in mid August for training, with the course teaching beginning at the end of August 2024 and running until the end of March 2025.

Your skills and attributes for success:

-Currently working towards the completion of a PhD
-A sound understanding of the academic skills required for successful study in an HE context
-Demonstrable ability to communicate with and lead final-year school students in a friendly and student-focussed manner
-Experience of leading tutorials/labs or similar in an HE setting and the marking of undergraduate work
-Excellent team and independent working skills
