Summary

36.5 hours per week, including 1 x weekend shift per month and the occasional sleep-in duty.

Working within a team but on a 1:1 basis predominantly.

Client details:
Gender - female, Age 29 years
Condition - Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, learning difficulties.

Car use
Must be able to make own way to/from work preferably with use of your own vehicle for flexibility.
Support workers must be comfortable and confident to drive client’s vehicle, which is a large automatic MPV.
Type of use; short distances on a day-to-day basis, but if supporting client on weekends away whilst competing in boccia competitions support would need to drive further afield within the UK. As would be the case for taking her to music concerts/tv programmes etc.

Job Spec

To work with our client, a young woman who has a brain injury, within her family home and in the community.
To enable her to participate in therapy programmes, recreational and leisure activities, both at home and in the community - such as physiotherapy/exercises, music sessions, gym etc.
To work alongside her with some household tasks, including meal planning, food shopping and preparation plus other general tasks required as set out by the team leader.
To carry out light domestic duties in her house as appropriate, such as vacuuming, washing, and ironing.
To act as a driver, using her vehicle mainly locally, and further afield if needed to compete in boccia tournaments and/or to go to concerts/TV studios etc.
To provide set daytime and evening support within a structured package. but with the flexibility of the occasional overnight support plus 1 weekend shift per month to enable the client to live a fulfilled life and not to be restricted by the constraints of only having weekday support.
To have availability enough to offer occasional cover for staff holidays and sickness.
To aid and support the client as directed by the client’s mum and team leader.
To follow an agreed approach, and use strategies documented in the support plan, working in collaboration with the client’s family and team leader and any other professionals when required.
To undertake training and supervision as agreed by the client’s mum, team leader and case manager.
To ensure client confidentiality in all matters relating to the client.
To provide assistance and support as directed by the client’s mum and team leader.
To be responsible to the client via client’s mum and team leader.
Any other appropriate and reasonable task in relation to the employment as agreed with the client, client’s mum, team leader and case manager.
To provide daily ongoing support/prompts to assist the client to undertake personal care and domestic activities.
To accompany the client on holidays and weekends away abroad and in the UK when required.

Applicant Personal Specifications
Essential Qualifications/Experience
You must be able to read information contained in reports, and also present information clearly and accurately when communicating with the team via emails and shift reports.
You must have the ability to work on your own unsupervised, or as part of a team.
You must have a full UK driving licence and be a confident driver of manual/automatic vehicles.
You must be prepared to have business class insurance on your own vehicle if you have the use of one for work.
You must be prepared to provide personal care.

Desirable experience
To have a knowledge or a level of understanding around Brain Injury.
To have experience of working in a community setting or people’s own homes.

Desirable Skills and Aptitudes
You should have a non – judgmental approach with the ability to see things from other peoples’ perspectives and be respectful of their lifestyle choices.
A calm communication style with clear pronunciation when speaking.
An understanding of the ‘enabling approach’ and the ability to judge when direction needs to be offered to the client.
A sense of humour is vital, along with an understanding of appropriate boundaries, with a mature, confident, and professional approach.
To be able to integrate an understanding of brain injury - displaying empathy but with a non-patronising approach.
The ability to follow the support plan, guidance from the team leader and family, and to accept feedback.
To display an understanding that the workplace is also the client’s family home.
Have flexibility and a willingness to step in and help the client and family when the situation demands it.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a variety of people involved with the client.
To be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised with the client.
Be Conscientiousness, have good timekeeping and good record keeping, using paper documentation and/or a laptop.
Ability to identify and manage potential risks, to safeguard the client.
The ability to use initiative and adapt to different situations and/or learn new skills.

Pay/Conditions
You will be employed by the client via local authority.
You will be line managed by the team leader on a day-to-day basis and overall by the client’s mum with assistance for supervision/appraisals by the case manager on behalf of the Deputy.
The contract allows for 5.6 weeks paid leave a year.
You will receive initial and on-going training, plus regular supervision from the Team leader.
Rates of pay: £13 p/h weekday hours, £14.50 p/h weekend hours, £12.44 p/h sleep in shift, and double time per hour on bank holidays.
