Summary
This post is to be part of the Congenial Cardiac Surgical team providing day-to-day surgical procedural support and care to patients in the Leicester Children’s Hospital and EMCHC unit.
You will be working alongside the team and participate in services for patients with congenital heart disease in the East Midlands, working with the existing team of Consultant Surgeons, Clinical Fellows, Surgical Care Practitioners, Theatre Staff, Intensive care and ward staff to deliver high quality care for patients with congenital heart defects undergoing surgery.
It’s an exciting time to join the EMCHC team as the paediatric service has recently moved into a brand new congenital heart centre at the Leicester Royal Infirmary site with a new hybrid catheter lab and paediatric cardiac theatre, and is now co-located with Leicester’s other paediatric services. The successful appointee will participate in cardiac surgical operations in the operating theatre as well as supporting the service in the surgical aspects of pre- and post-operative patient care. The appointee will participate in an on-call rota for emergency work, this includes supporting our ECMO service (EMCHC is a nationally designated paediatric ECMO centre). The successful appointee will be encouraged, and supported in participating in research, clinical audit, and the educational activities of the unit
Assist surgical team in the operating theatre and where appropriate, carrying out selected procedures as the primary operator.
Participate in the PICU and AICU rounds ensuring that relevant treatments and investigations are communicated and carried out.
Ensure all patients on the ward are seen regularly, deciding on day to day clinical management.
Participate in teaching, research an audit, ensuring that the highest standards of clinical governance are adhered to at all times.
Congenital Cardiology Services at EMCHC include a full range of interventional procedures including PPVI, TAVI, and device closure of septal defects, PDA’s and collaterals.
There is a well-developed electrophysiological, fetal and adult congenital service. Intensive Care is provided for children in a dedicated PICU which also accommodates one of the world’s largest paediatric ECMO centre.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
· high-quality care for all,
· being a great place to work,
· partnerships for impact, and
· research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
· we are compassionate,
· we are proud,
· we are inclusive, and
· we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
