East Lothian Council have a rare and exciting opportunity for Residential Childcare Support Workers to join a team to provide excellent standards of care within a small residential house in Ormiston. The residential service is designed for a maximum of two young people with complex additional support needs. It is currently registered for one female resident who requires full time care to meet her physical, emotional and social needs.

Applicants should have a sound value base, excellent communication skills and a comprehensive understanding of complex disability and the issues can affect the lives of young people. We would love to hear from experienced disability / residential childcare workers who take pride in their crucial and life changing work.

They should hold high aspirations for young people and be ready to work as part of a team to support young people to meet their potential and lead an active life in their community.

Our residential childcare support workers should understand the importance of family connections for young people and work closely with the support team to deliver all aspects of a care plan with effective communication and high standards. Applicants should be motivated to practice with compassion and patience and be prepared to provide support in all areas of a young person’s life.

Candidates should work well under pressure and be able to demonstrate how they would prioritise their resilience and wellbeing in this rewarding but often challenging work environment.

Job Details

As part of a team, provide direct support to children and young people across the Long Term Support Service.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
You must hold a minimum of either an HNC or an SVQ3 in Social Care, - with a willingness to obtain the other qualification within a designated period in order to meet SSSC Registration requirements, or any other equivalent qualifications to meet SSSC Registration requirements, along with an ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

Willingness to undertake personal and professional training and development, as required.

Willingness to undertake Positive Behaviour Management training e.g. Team Teach once in post.

Registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the “Residential Child Care Worker” section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration as soon as possible and this must be achieved within six months of your start date.

Driving Licence
A full current driving licence is desirable for this post.

PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
