Summary
We are seeking a Chef work in our café, Kawa House, a cosy and popular cafe in York. As the Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our cafe's food preparation, menu development, and kitchen management. We open during the week from 8am-3pm and on a weekend from 9am until 3pm.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver appealing menus that align with the cafe's concept and customer preferences
- Develop recipes for all menu items, ensuring consistent quality and taste
- Suggest daily specials and menu updates to keep offerings fresh and exciting
Food Preparation and Quality Control
- Oversee the preparation of all hot and cold food items, ensuring adherence to recipes and quality standards
- Maintain high standards of food presentation, taste, and freshness
- Inspect and ensure the quality of all ingredients and supplies
- Implement portion control measures to minimize food waste and control costs
Kitchen Management
- Supervise and provide guidance to kitchen staff, fostering a positive and efficient work environment
- Adhere to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety protocols
- Manage kitchen inventory, placing orders for supplies as needed
- Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked kitchen at all times
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
Requirements:
- Experience as a Chef or Cook
- Comprehensive knowledge of food preparation techniques
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities
- Passion for creating delicious and visually appealing dishes
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
