Summary
They will actively promote breast feeding and participate in the training of both the parents and professionals on the neonatal unit. This will entail being a specialist in breast feeding, acting as a resource for the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will maintain the milk banks including ensuring donors are recruited and that donor milk is handled in line with NICE guidelines and local policy. The post holder will support, supervise, and facilitate the training of multidisciplinary team staff including, student nurses, student midwives, and health care support workers. The post holder will actively support women with establishing and maintaining milk supply and breastfeeding. To act as a role model in breast feeding in the clinical area. The post holder will help to provide a quality family centred and supportive environment where parents/carers can learn to care for their babies. To maintain own personal development with support. To be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide high quality breastfeeding support to mothers. The post holder will participate in clerical duties and general administrative duties related to infant feeding. Accountable to breastfeeding team and Senior sister. Particular emphasis is put at Kings on the need to ensure that all staff recognise their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient focused manner maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Promote clinical supervision and reflective practice for self Education/Personal Development/Training To attend and participate in the in-service multidisciplinary teaching programmes as well as Trust Mandatory training. To participate on the UNICEF breastfeeding workshops, team away days and paediatric mandatory training days. To attend relevant study days To identify own personal development needs through Individual Performance Review, and maintain personal records of professional development. To assist in the teaching and practice development of junior colleagues and students based within the clinical area General Duties The duties and responsibilities of the post will be in accordance with policies and practice of Kings College Hospital NHS Trust, which the Trust may amend from time to time.
