Summary

Leeds
The DSL will assume primary responsibility for safeguarding and child protection throughout the homes. They will participate in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings, contributing to the assessment of children. Additionally, they will provide guidance and support to other staff members on child welfare and protection issues, and coordinate with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police. While some safeguarding tasks may be delegated to deputies, the DSL will maintain overall responsibility for their work, ensuring it meets the highest standards.
The role is based in Leeds a vibrant city in West Yorkshire, England, known for its rich industrial heritage, diverse cultural scene, and strong economic growth. Leeds boasts excellent transport links, including a major railway station with direct services to London, Manchester, and Edinburgh, a comprehensive bus network, and close proximity to Leeds Bradford Airport, facilitating both domestic and international travel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Managing referrals
• Working with staff and other agencies
• Training
• Raise awareness
• Other areas of responsibility
The Ideal Person:-
• Holds a recognised qualification in Social Work (or equivalent)
• Has experience of being a designated Safeguarding Office or equivalent
• Has the ability to work with a degree of autonomy in a flexible and creative manner
• Is able to communicate at all levels, negotiate and mediate, building effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders
• Has a solid working knowledge of how local authorities conduction a Child Protection Case conference and be able to attend and contribute to these on a regular basis
• Has experience of delivering service improvement at a strategic and operational level
• A superb knowledge of Local Safeguarding Children Boards and planning processes for safeguarding and child-protection investigations
• A superb knowledge of behaviour that is harmful to children and thresholds for poor practice
• A superb knowledge of the core values and principles of working with children
• An excellent knowledge of legislation, government guidance and the national framework for Safeguarding children
• A child focused approach
