This is a fantastic opportunity for talented and driven individuals to join our small but growing dedicated and passionate Thriving Greenspaces Team who are focussed on improving Edinburgh's parks and greenspaces for both people and nature.

Within the Parks and Greenspaces service, we are recruiting three new staff to support the delivery our of new ‘Edinburgh 2050 Thriving Greenspaces’ vision and strategy. The work has been undertaken as part of the Thriving Greenspaces project which has been funded by the pioneering National Heritage Lottery Fund and the National Trust ‘Future Park’s Accelerator’ grant programme.

The successful candidates will play an important role in shaping the future of the City’s parks and greenspaces for people and nature and will be instrumental in realising the ambitions of the citizens of Edinburgh.

These roles will take a lead in delivering a diverse programme of projects, with a focus on the Pentlands Regional Park, Million Tree City and Food Growing as well as climate adaptation, safety, access, visitor experience and staff development so together we are in a better position to deliver our strategy objectives.

You will need to collaborate with colleagues, partners and communities to deliver these projects, and be able to navigate local authority processes such as procurement, planning applications and committee approval. Experience in developing successful funding bids, project management, delivering greenspace projects and community participation will be essential in this role. You will need drive, energy and focus to manage your workloads while working within tight timelines.

It should be noted that two posts are permanent, and one post is fixed term for two years initially with the possibility of an extension for a further two years.

This is part of an ambitious wider recruitment campaign to increase capacity across the Council to support our response to the nature crisis. The Council declared a Nature Emergency in 2023 and are now looking for experienced and motivated individuals to make a positive impact across a range of roles and teams.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
