Summary


An opportunity has arisen to work for the day facility which comprises of a busy day unit and outpatient clinical area. The work load is fast paced with a quick turn around for patients requiring tests or treatments in the day unit. Both the day unit and the clinics are located in the same area and patients will normally interface both areas often within the same day. The team will work together and interchangeably within the whole area.

The day unit primarily specialises in metabolic and endocrine testing, however it also takes referrals for day cases from other specialties. The clinics house growth hormone clinics, thyroid patient care, osteoporosis care and all manner of diabetic care such as foot care, sexual health and metabolic liver diseases, retinal screening and a young persons clinics.



This position requires a person with phlebotomy skill, Cerner system knowledge, strong organizational skills, flexibility and good interpersonal skills. It is expected you will support and train other team members. You will be supported to do this. You’ll be working in a team of outpatient assistants. You will have experience of dealing with patients / customers in a healthcare setting and be understanding of patient and staff needs. Given the varied nature of this role you must be keen to learn and develop new skills and have a proven track record of reliability and punctuality. You will also enjoy being part of a team and be able to work with minimal supervision, as you will often have sole responsibility for particular tasks.

As part of a close-knit team you will rotate around the various administrative and clinical tasks that are required. This will include, manning the reception desk, booking patients and taking telephone enquiries, measuring and weighting patients and taking blood samples. You will also be expected to pull and prep referral for the day ward, outpatient clinics and multi-disciplinary meetings. You will be supported by the Administrative Co-ordinator and will report to the Clinical Unit Manager and Outpatient Supervisor.

The post holder will work as part of the team of staff in the Diabetic and Endocrine Centre (consisting of Diabetes, Endocrine and Specialist clinics and the Day Unit), administrating the clinic and day unit and providing clinical support for patient attending the centre. You will work under the direction of medical staff and trained nurses and be responsible with them for the patients under their care. You will be responsible for carrying out routine administrative duties, booking investigations and follow up appointments. You will also work as a health care assistant, covering duties such as basic observations, ecg, cannulation, phlebotomy and assisting with patients undergoing tests as a day case.
