A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

The University Hospitals Derby and Burton (UHDB) Pharmacy and Pathology departments are looking to recruit an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to work in the OPAT team to deliver pharmacy aspects of the OPAT service.

The multidisciplinary OPAT team is led by a consultant in microbiology/infectious disease and you will work closely with parenteral therapy nurses, medical and nursing staff and community nurses to deliver a safe and effective patient-centred OPAT service.

The OPAT service is well established and well regarded in the Trust, and pharmacy have a pivotal role within the team. You will work alongside the Advanced Pharmacist for antimicrobials and OPAT and alongside other specialist pharmacists as well as the technical team.

You will also be involved in the trust antimicrobial stewardship program to help reduce the rise in antimicrobial resistance.

You will support the team in developing a trust wide culture that reduces hospital acquired infection and supports prudent use of antimicrobials.

You will be an experienced GPhC registered pharmacist with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Hospital experience is essential and ideally you will have a postgraduate clinical qualification. Experience in antimicrobial work is not essential, but you must demonstrate an interest in the area. As this is fundamentally a multidisciplinary team role, you must demonstrate organisational skills and enjoy working as part of a team.

You will work closely with clinicians and nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines within the OPAT team.

The main duties involve identification of suitable patients for OPAT and advising on appropriate choice, dose and administration of antimicrobials for outpatient use.

You will also be involved in the monitoring and follow-up of patients, liaison with referring clinical teams and maintaining accurate patient records. Furthermore, you will have opportunities to attend MDT's to provide input on the antimicrobial management of patients.

You will be expected to deputise for the advanced pharmacist for antimicrobials and OPAT, and participate in out of hours and weekend rotas.

If you are a registered pharmacist with relevant hospital experience and a passion for antimicrobials, this may be the post for you.

You will be expected to rotate between Royal Derby Hospital, Florence and Queens Hospital Burton. The Pharmacy Department at UHDB has a reputation for innovation and provides a comprehensive service from state-of-the-art facilities, with dispensing robots on both acute hospital sites.
