Summary
The School of Science and Engineering has an international reputation for excellent teaching and topical research, particularly in addressing global challenges in energy, the environment, health care, technology, forensic science and infrastructure.
The Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science is a 10 year £10 Million project with the remit to disrupt positively the current forensic science ecosystem. As a key appointment in the £10m Leverhulme Research Centre we are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a XR Application Specialist with Multi-Platform Focus
within our team to develop and prototype Virtual and Augmented Reality applications for use by forensic and crime scene practitioners with a focus on the documentation and recording of indoor and outdoor spaces.
This is a fixed-term appointment until 30 June 2026.
We are seeking an individual with a background in a relevant discipline such as software and apps development, game design and development or 3D modelling and must be able to demonstrate a research background in the area of computer science.
Your priorities will include:
- Develop VR/AR experiences for various platforms, including standalone, PCVR and mobile devices.
- Conduct collaborative research, including determining appropriate research methods and contributing to the development of innovative and exciting research ideas in XR and VR applications.
- Create clear and concise documentation for code and applications.
- Communicate scientific knowledge and data effectively to non-expert audiences.
- Research and stay up-to-date with the latest VR/AR technology and trends.
Who we're looking for:
- Educated to PhD level would be an advantage but not essential. Applicants without a PhD will need to demonstrate comprehensive applications experience in the use of VR/AR in applied situations.
- Evidence of experience in designing and developing independently multiplatform applications (mobile, desktop or web apps).
- Demonstrable advanced knowledge and practical application of computer science in the delivery of VR/AR.
- Evidence of excellent written, verbal and IT communication skills.
- Demonstrable depth of knowledge in research area to be able to work independently and as part of research team.
