Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Cardiology Service at West Hertfordshire Hospitals. The service is looking to appoint 1 full-time locum in Complex Coronary Intervention and join our team of 16 substantive consultants.

This is a 1 year locum post, renewable by 1 year with a view to substantive appointment. We are looking for a candidate with specific interest in complex coronary intervention who will utilise and expand our increasing repertoire of interventions on site. There is also potential for additional sessions at one of our tertiary partner hospitals with a view to supporting their PPCI oncall.

This is an exciting time for the Trust as it plans for a new hospital build. There will be a commitment to providing outpatient clinics as well as dedicated catheter lab time. We have recently refurbished our catheter labs, equipped with IVUS, FFR, OCT, Coroventis software and orbital atherectomy. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to drive and expand the service.

The successful applicant will be based at Watford with outreach clinics at Hemel Hempstead Hospital. They will work with the cardiology consultant body to provide a highly effective service for patients, local general medical practitioners and hospital colleagues. The appointee will be expected to work independently in the cardiac catheter lab, support and further develop the busy interventional service. It is anticipated that the post holder will have at least two catheter lab sessions, two out-patient clinics per week, contribute to the consultant of the week ward rota and provide specialist inreach care to acute medicine/emergency department.

The West Herts Cardiology team is diverse and highly collaborative. The candidate should be able to work as part of that team, providing leadership within, contributing to our long term service developments and progressing treatments.

There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust! Major redevelopment worksare planned as part of the New Hospital Programme. These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

The trust has recently gained ‘teaching hospital’ status which reflects the dedicated work of many teams and individuals who have set the standard for delivering high quality training, learning and education at all levels of the workforce.
