We are currently looking for a Senior Operations Manager for our North and Scotland region to manage the asset portfolio, safely minimising cost and maximising performance. This key role is responsible for driving operational excellence, managing managers to ensure that the business achieves its safety, performance and financial targets, and that a diverse pipeline of talent is identified, retained and developed for the future.

As this is a regional role we are flexible on your location so whether you live in Leeds, Durham, Newcastle, York, Sheffield or anywhere else across the region, if you have the experience and skills to successfully deliver this role then we want to hear from you. We can also offer relocation for anyone looking to move North! Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Regional Operations Director (North and Scotland), the role of Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for managing their teams to deliver operational excellence and effectiveness across the region.

The role of Senior Operations Manager will also be responsible for:

  • Reviewing area KPI’s in monthly performance reviews and ensuring the team take positive action
  • Adopting a continuous improvement mindset, collaborating outside of immediate remit to share and learn best practices, seeking innovation and identifying ways of improving performance and quality
  • Embedding the sustainability strategy actively seeking opportunities to achieve more sustainable ways of working
  • Overall budget accountability for the area, managing teams to ensure targets achieved
  • Managing monthly complaints review, ensuring route cause analysis completed with actions delegated
  • Ensuring raw materials / end product are sourced / supplied from locations that deliver greatest return for Tarmac
  • Ensuring production is closely aligned with sales to maximise returns and minimise stock levels
  • Owning the design and delivery of the annual strategy plan for the area
  • Capex submissions for the area, writing papers, managing the process and maintaining the 5 year plan
  • Working with the Land and Natural Resources team on estate planning matters
  • Developing and maintaining Quarry Development Plan

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Senior Operations Manager will have proven expertise working in a similar role within an aggregates and asphalt environment and will understand how to maximise the use of the resources and products from raw materials, ensuring the availability of resources as well as restoring spent or worked areas. You will demonstrate a good understanding of typical customer requirements as well as the technology and principles of designing bituminous mixtures including Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP). You should also possess an appreciation of the specific processes and knowledge required to produce, transport and place products.

Suitable candidates for the role of Senior Operations Manager will also have:

  • Understanding of health, safety and environmental policies, standards, and legislation and how health and safety should be managed
  • Appreciation of the impact of production processes on sustainability and the supply chain and understands the principles of operating quality product efficiently
  • Ability to set and manage budgets and establish site costs including cost benefit analysis
  • Proven capability to deliver through managers, with effective coaching and delegation skills to empower the team
  • Good appreciation of the social and economic issues associated with the exploration, exploitation and development of a mineral extraction site and understand the challenges around both new site planning requirements and planning permissions extensions
  • Experience adhering to principles of sustainable development, reclamation of mineral workings, minerals planning, managing waste and an understanding of environmental law and legislation and its implication for the minerals extractive industry.
  • Proven problem solving skills including tools and techniques, able to apply root cause analysis
  • Confidence to plan, structure and present meetings and briefings
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, confidently influence others including report writing and presentations
  • Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise and plan ahead for work activities and projects
  • Analytical approach to monitoring trends, interpreting results and making data-driven decisions
  • Ability to think critically, obtaining and evaluating information from your teams to make critical operational decisions

A company car/car allowance is provided with this role so a full UK driving licence is essential.
