Summary


An exciting opportunity has become available to join our Clinical Coding Team. As a Team Manager the post holder will be responsible for Data Entry and Administration Assistants.

The post holder will be responsible for the direct line management of the (Trainee) Clinical Coding Analysts and Clinical Coding Administrators based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, through effective leadership and the creation of a motivational environment thus ensuring timely workflow processes are implemented to support service delivery.

As the direct line manager for the (Trainee) Clinical Coding Analysts and Clerical Assistants, to be responsible for the daily of running of department including workload planning via the Uncoded PTL, the management annual leave, sickness and other absences and ensuring the HealthRoster remains accurate at all times.



To assist the Head of Clinical Coding, Deputy Head of Coding, Data Validation Manager and Audit Manager with the on-going development and long-term planning of the Clinical Coding service, ensuring that national clinical coding standards, rules and conventions are implemented within the agreed timescales.

To consider and adjust accordingly previously agreed work plans to ensure compliance with the Trust’s requirements for service delivery.

To provide support to the Clinical Coding Analysts and Trainee Clinical Coding Analysts with any complex queries relating to the interpretation of treatment into ICD10 and OPCS4 to ensure accurate code assignment through compliance with the nationally mandated clinical coding standards, rules and conventions.

To assist the Head of Clinical Coding, Deputy Head of Coding, Data Validation Manager and Audit Manager with the development of clinical engagement; working with clinicians and other medical and professional staff to resolve audit and coding queries in order to ensure that activity data is comprehensive, and validated by the responsible clinician.

Using persuasive and complex communication techniques, present and discuss as appropriate, complex clinical coding procedures and conventions to a range of staff involved with and allied to the coding process. This will include Directors, Clinical and Administrative staff.

To assist the Head of Clinical Coding, Deputy Head of Coding, and Data Validation and Audit Manager in the training of all Trainee Clinical Coding Analysts, ensuring they are trained in accordance with national clinical coding standards, rules and conventions.

To assist the Head Clinical Coding, Deputy Head of Coding, Validation Manager and Audit Manager with the validation and auditing of clinically coded data created by the (Trainee) Clinical Coding Analysts. Intense periods of concentration will be frequently required when analysing and accurately interpreting clinical data, such as the written doctors’ notes, nursing notes, imaging and test results.

To act as a professional member of the Clinical Coding Department to ensure a proficient clinical coding service is maintained.

Using persuasive and complex communication techniques, present, deliver and discuss a range of general and sensitive Trust and departmental information with the clinical coding team.

To be responsible for the performance of the clinical coding team, ensuring they remain compliant with the Trust’s mission and vision values and other relevant policies. To ensure the timely completion of appraisals including the identification of training and personal development opportunities and other support measures. To develop appropriate action plans to ensure the appraisee can achieve their set targets within the agreed timescales.

To assist the department through responsible expenditure to ensure it remains within budget.
