Summary

The candidate will be part of our Medical Education team and will carry out various roles to support leadership and training to our junior doctors. The role will include co-ordinating senior and junior leadership projects, developing the leadership program, and organising and co-ordinating meetings between trainees and tutors, attending deanery and national meetings as required and improving and enhancing the leadership role. They will also provide mentorship for the junior leadership group and assist trainees with their quality improvement projects. The candidate will be involved in other general training and will assist the Education teams to deliver training in courses for both trainees and medical students. They may assist and be part of our faculty providing simulated training sessions and design courses and clinical scenarios. They will help develop safety training including lessons learned and debrief for clinical incidents and near misses. The candidate will be encouraged to develop their own leadership or QIP ideas. The post holder will be required to attend BSMS, regional and national educational meetings and liaise with the BSMS Programme Team and the local office of NHS England Workforce, Training and Education Directorate as required. The candidate will spend 2-3 days per week undertaking clinical duties in their base speciality. This will be negotiated and tailored to the individual with the department concerned. Examples of duties within the medical department for our current fellow: Lead and contribute to agreed project to improve medical and multi professional education and/or the experience of doctors at pre consultant level. Setting up an education programme for junior doctors. Monthly Emergency Floor Research meeting to discuss audits, research and adoption of NIHR studies. Weekly updates on audit progress. Meetings between trainees Supporting medical students within the department and appropriate supervision by senior trainees. Practical skills and bedside teaching for medical students, trainees and those sitting PACES exams. To work as part of a team to support and help to provide a comprehensive medical service within the Trust. To gain fantastic experience in acute management of all medical patients, by providing emergency treatment to stabilise acute conditions, both before admission and during admission. The Doctor may be required to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, and exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances to ensure the safe running of the Department. To complete clinical notes contemporaneously, and to adequately record decision making on the computerized records system, including the x-ray reporting system. To react positively to changes in planned workload when unforeseen interruptions occur and to plan tasks and activities accordingly. To prioritise own workload demonstrating a methodical and well organised approach. To ensure patient confidentiality is adhered to at all times and escalate any barriers leading to delays in patient management or referral.
