About Us:

Mary Hare educates 240 profoundly deaf children at its residential school in Berkshire, and we pride ourselves on our pupils’ achievements at GCSE, A Level as well as B Tech and Vocational Courses. We offer the opportunity to teach highly motivated children, in small classes, where you can make a real difference at this national centre of excellence for deaf education. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy.



The Role:

Providing technical and curriculum support services to the Design & Technology Department. The curriculum includes; product design, design and technology, graphics, and textiles.

You will be working as part of a team to support the smooth running of the department and wider Creative Arts and Technology Faculty.



Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervising Students, ensuring their safety whilst encouraging students to interact with others and engage in activities whilst supporting the teacher.
Give technical advice to teachers and pupils assisting in practical classes as appropriate.
Establishing good relationships with students, acting as a role model, reporting progress, and responding to minor welfare and personal needs such as ensuring students requiring regular medications are given timely reminders.
Assist the Head of Department in the ordering of materials and equipment, ensuring appropriate stock levels of apparatus and tools are maintained.
Set up and, on occasion, carry out demonstrations, to be proficient in the use of the range of CAD/CAM equipment and provide technical support during lesson time.
Participate in Health & Safety training whilst sharing skills and expertise with others.


About You:


Skilled in Carpentry/practical skills
D&TA Health and Safety accreditation, or willingness to work towards this.
Good numeracy and literacy skills
Ability to relate well to children and adults.
Experience of working with children of relevant age and students with additional needs
Able to maintain and repair all tools and equipment.
Proficient with use of ICT to support learning.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
