Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist with expertise in both EEG and EMG / nerve conduction. Experience of providing monitoring during deep brain stimulator insertion would also be a great asset. The successful applicant will join a team of 18 neurophysiological scientists and practitioners. They will contribute to a a comprehensive Clinical Neurophysiology service providing both outpatient and inpatient investigation across Nottinghamshire and the wider region. They will have a broad experience in all aspects of Clinical Neurophysiology, including paediatric neurophysiology. Experience in single fibre EMG would be a bonus. The appointee would participate in the on call rota providing remote EEG reporting between 0900 and 1700 at weekends and on bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

To provide consultant-led Clinical Neurophysiological procedures and reporting for patients in Nottinghamshire and the surrounding region. A contribution to on call for reporting emergency EEG (typically critical care) is required at weekends and on bank holidays between 0900 - 1700. This will usually be done remotely. During on call the Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist should also be available to provide advice to referring clinicians and on call neurophysiological scientists. The post involves supervision and training or neurophysiological scientists and practitioners at all levels but in particular those training to be Consultant Clinical Scientists. The appointee will report to the Deputy Clinical Director for the Science and Technology Directorate and will be required to maintain professional registration with the GMC.

NUH also has large neurology, neurosurgical, spinal and orthopaedic departments and is also home to the Nottingham Children's hospital. Nottingham Clinical Neurophysiology offers EEG including routine, sleep deprived, ambulatory and long term (video telemetry), somatosensory evoked potentials, EMG / NCS including SFEMG, intraoperative spinal cord monitoring, sleep studies and cerebral function monitoring. All procedures are performed across a wide range of patients including babies and young children.
