Is excellent attention to detail ‘Your Thing’?

We are looking for reliable and hardworking individuals, who are willing to work outside and onboard our trains throughout the year to deliver spotlessly clean trains to our customers to join our team of Train Cleaners.

You must be over 21 and hold a UK driving license, for a minimum of 2 years and you must be prepared to drive a small company van to clean from site to site.

Connecting millions of people and communities across the North is our mission. With 2,500 trains a day, we connect people to jobs, friends, family, and the wonders of the North.

We're improving rail travel, enhancing the experience on board and at stations. Customers are at the heart of our business as we improve performance and create a better way to go.

We're driving economic value and sustainable growth for the North and its people. Our commitment to the environment means reducing our impact and enhancing the world around us.

Make a difference. Make it last. Make it yours. Make it easy. Make it happen. These are our values.

Ready to make them yours? Join us on this journey.

About the role:

As a Train Cleaner, you will play a vital role in offering a spotlessly clean train and a welcoming environment for all our customers. Not all of our roles are customer facing, we have station teams, TrainCare Centre teams (you'll be expected to be able to climb onto our trains from ground level), and on-board train cleaning teams, who all have pride in the service we deliver for our customers and colleagues, as we always strive for excellence.

Our trains and stations operate 7 days a week and we complete four different types of cleans within our teams in 24 hours, so it can be more difficult than you may think, but you'll quickly hit that 10,000 step goal.

On our night shifts, we have two cleaning teams: a Full Clean team and a Deep Clean team. During your shift, we expect you to thoroughly clean our trains to ensure we continually deliver hygienic and functioning trains for our customers. The Deep Clean team are also expected to use specialist equipment to get rid of all ingrained dirt from all parts of the train - don’t worry we train you on how to use these.

The initial training is 1-5 days in the classroom (dependent on location) followed by practical and on the job training, working with the cleaning team.

If this sounds like your thing, we’d love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities:

This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include, but are not limited to:

Hoovering/steam cleaning floors and walls
Cleaning tables, windows, and touch points
Don’t forget you’ll also clean our cabs to keep our colleagues working environment hygienic too
You’ll remove litter and empty bins
It could also include dealing with any significant cleaning issues, which otherwise left untreated could cause a train service to be cancelled, such as blood or vomit spills.

About you:

We are looking for reliable and hardworking individuals to fulfil this role. You’ll be willing to work outside, as well as on board our trains, throughout the year. You’ll also be flexible enough to deal with ever-changing demands. We teach you everything you need to know so you don’t necessarily need any previous cleaning experience.

If you fancy doing your thing as a Train Cleaner, your greatest strengths will be:

Working in a team to get a job completed together.
Following instructions and attention to detail to successfully maintain high cleaning standards.
We like you to have pride in your work and always strive to be the best you can
If successful you'd be working across different locations on each shift, so we require you to be 21 or over and hold a UK driving license, for a minimum of 2 years and you must be prepared to drive a small company van.
