Summary


Renal Unit -Home Therapies - Unit Manager (Band 7)

An exciting opportunity to work within our renal unit for a full time Band 7 registered nurse. We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident experienced nurse for the role as Unit Manager in our Home Therapies Department who will be able to draw on knowledge and skills in coordinating the care of patients who choose to have dialysis in their home environment. You should have wide ranging experience in both peritoneal and home haemodialysis.

The renal unit looks after our local population of renal patients as well as patients from further afield. The ward cares for patients with kidney disease encompassing acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and renal transplantation. There are 2 haemodialysis units, one of which looks after acutely unwell patients and a home dialysis unit. Our outpatient clinics provide care for patients along their renal pathway.

You will need to have excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills. You will contribute to the provision of excellent patient care and must have experience and up to date knowledge and skills in renal nursing.

You should be able to draw on extensive knowledge and skills and be comfortable in giving information to patients to help them make informed choices, have developed clinical decision making skills, be a confident educator for both patients and staff and be able to have a flexible approach in meeting the needs of patients.

• To act as the professional role model, leading and co-ordinating the nursing team.
• To have continuous responsibility for the management and organisation of the department within the available resources.
• To be accountable for the overall provision of excellent nursing care and to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.

• To lead on the recruitment of patients for renal home therapies

Specialist Area Requirements:
• To be responsible for the operational and clinical management of the Renal Home Dialysis Unit
• To be responsible in ensuring the continuity of patient care between hospital, home and within the department.
• To provide excellent nursing care, utilise specialist knowledge to teach & educate patients, carers, undergoing Peritoneal Dialysis and Haemodialysis at home.
• To work collaboratively to lead and coordinate the development of home dialysis unit making best use of available resources.
• To provide effective and robust training programmes for patients/carers/staff
• To provide an effective and responsive service to patients and carers within the trust and in their homes.
• Initiate and manage the treatment of renal failure anaemia, working within agreed guidelines.
• To provide practice development support to renal nurses.
• To work closely with the matron, care group lead and service manager to ensure the operational and strategic development of the home dialysis service.
• Participate in the procurement of dialysis consumables and the home delivery services as appropriate.
