An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated radiographer/midwife with a genuine interest in maternity ultrasound to join our friendly team at the Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be expected to attend University of Hertfordshire, to attain a PgCert in Medical Ultrasound.

This position is for Obstetric and Gynaecology Ultrasound and the post holder will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

We are looking for an adaptable and flexible person who is prepared to work hard to obtain this qualification, and join our progressive team.



Clinical
• To work under direct supervision to perform obstetric and gynaecology ultrasound examination according to OUHFT policy and guidelines.
• To effectively communicate the results of the examination to the patient.
• To keep up with your professional development and statutory requirements.
• To participate in advanced evidence practice.
• To participate in the chromosomal screening programme.
• To record and save the exam results as per FASP and Trust guidance.

Educational
• Attend all allotted university study days.
• Complete assignments set by the university.
• Collaborate with your mentors to improve your practical scanning.
• Recognise the independent study commitments required to complete the course successfully.

OVERALL OBJECTIVES:

To undertake a 14 Month training programme to achieve a post graduate certificate in ultrasound. This will be achieved by completing theoretical and practical examinations.

On successful completion of training the post holder will be expected to work as an independent autonomous sonographer by performing ultrasound scans to a high standard, formulate a report and communicate the results to patients.

On successful completion of the course you will be required to fulfil all aspect of the Advance Practitioner role.

• Midwives and Fetal Medicine Department.
• Other stakeholders: GPs.
• Obstetricians and Radiologists.















Educational

Operational


• To work as part of a team to provide a high-quality ultrasound service within the Maternity service.
• To ensure the smooth running of the ultrasound service by effective communication with clerical and other staff.
• Share responsibility for the appropriate and cost-effective use of resources within the ultrasound service.
• To participate in audit and monitoring of standards.
• To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as requested.



Risk Management
• The management of risk is the responsibility of everyone and will be achieved with a progressive, honest and open environment.’
• Staff will be provided with the necessary education, training and support to enable them to meet this responsibility.



Responsibility for Health and Safety
• To use all equipment in an appropriate manner, reporting any unusual incident or equipment
• To organise room equipment and working environment to minimise personal risk of work-related upper limbs disorder (WRULD) and be aware of the regulation guiding the use of DSE’s.
• The post holder is responsible for ensuring all duties and responsibilities of this post are carried out in compliance with the Health and Safety Work Act 1974, Statutory Regulations and Trust Policies and Procedures.
