Summary

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES: To be responsible for ensuring high standards of patient care while adhering to trust policies and guidelines. To ensure nursing practice is research based and be aware of currentdevelopments guaranteeing regular updating of current policies andguidelines. Maintain close links with the unit manager ensuring an understanding of budgets, contracts and marketing of services. Ensure staff are aware of budgetary issues pertinent to their role. Manage shift rotas in accordance with ward policy while making sure staffing levels and skill mix is adequate. Deputise for the unit manager and perform other duties, as requested by the unit manager, commensurate with grade as well as representing the ward at meetings and committees as required. Work closely with the unit manager regarding core services, ward issues and opimising resources. Participate in clinical audits to ensure high standard service is delivered. To ensure good working relationships are maintained within the team and ward. Ensure an environment conducive to learning is provided for both trained and untrained staff Identify staff training/development needs through the staff appraisal system. Support staff in their orientation, preceptorship and rotation programmes as appropriate. Participate in recruitment and selection process. To deal with complaints as appropriate and keep the unit manager informed, making sure relevant action is taken to prevent recurrence
