Summary

Principal elements of the post: Maintenance and development of Respiratory Medicine services within the Trust to the highest standard. This role is predominantly centred at either Peterborough City Hospital, or Hinchingbrooke Hospital, with some cross-site commitment between the two hospitals. To share with colleagues the responsibility of delivering high quality care in Respiratory Medicine in outpatient and inpatient settings. Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, nurses and other professionals allied to medicine. To actively participate in both Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit. Lead role in sub speciality depending on experience of successful candidate. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME). Sessions in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine will include: 2-3 clinics per week in General/Speciality Respiratory Medicine, depending on job plan/speciality interest Providing Consultant cover on Ward B12 (at Peterborough City Hospital), or Walnut Ward (Hinchinbrook) including senior input, review of acute admissions and ward rounds (Monday-Friday) along with consultant colleagues. At Peterborough, the respiratory consultants currently also manage 7 beds on Ward B1. Providing respiratory review for inpatient acute respiratory admissions on other wards along with consultant colleagues. Providing regular diagnostic procedures such as bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy, pleural aspiration, insertion of indwelling pleural catheter and ultrasound guided pleural biopsy Providing leave cover for Consultant colleagues in the Department of Respiratory Medicine Participating in the treatment of acute GIM admissions with other Consultant colleagues in the Emergency Medical Unit.
