Summary

About us
We are looking for someone with vision, compassion and energy to lead our Library and Cultural services teams, within the Learning & Skills Directorate. This is a new opportunity to support and develop our amazing library services, and to grow our arts and cultural services with new revenue streams, events, and partnerships. We have an excellent and experienced team, and are looking for someone who can forge meaningful partnerships, work with our service users to develop services, and can deliver inspiring leadership with new ways of doing business to ensure long term sustainability of these crucial public services.

Libraries in the Vale of Glamorgan provide a wide range of services to library users through activities, training and events, free access to the internet and information, hire of rooms, work with partners, a wealth of local studies materials and of course the loan of books, audio books and eMagazines.

Our Arts and Culture services provide a range of opportunities and events through our venues in Penarth, Barry and Cowbridge including music, theatre, exhibitions, workshops, concerts cinema and family entertainment. This is an exciting time in widening access to these services and supporting their development, with a strong community focus.





About the role
Pay Details: Grade 9

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours, Monday to Friday

Main Place of Work: Based in any of our libraries or cultural centres within the Vale of Glamorgan, with regular travel between venues as required.



Description:

To lead and be responsible for our library services, including 4 core libraries operated by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, and supporting 5 Community-led Libraries, through partnership working. Also responsible for our Arts and Culture service, including Arts Central Gallery and the Penarth Pier Pavilion. Lead officer for reporting on progress and industry trends, financial management of the service, revenue generation and commercialisation, and being a proactive member of the Learning & Skills team.





About you
You will need:

A positive, proactive and hands-on approach to supporting team members
Experience in delivering new services and/or managing change
Ability to think strategically, and to build new relationships
A partnership approach, both internally and externally
Excellent communication skills
Experience of managing of resources on time and within budget
Experience of report writing and communicating change
Track record of revenue generation, innovation and/or business improvement
