The Opportunity

Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project is now seeking private investment with a view to start construction in 2024. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Radwaste and Decommissioning Lead as part of the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Liabilities Team in the Environment, Social, Governance and Radiation Strategy Directorate within the Sizewell C project.
Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.


The Role


You’ll have good experience in radioactive waste management and decommissioning looking to further develop your expertise and build experience in an exciting and challenging environment of new nuclear build.

You’ll provide advice on the design, specification, manufacture, commissioning and operation to support compliance with the environmental permit for the disposal of radioactive waste and to support the maintenance of the decommissioning waste management plan (DWMP).

You’ll be responsible for producing company documents and provision of advice to other groups in the organisation and contractors on ensuring the application of Best Available Techniques is demonstrated in compliance with the conditions of the environmental permit.

You’ll lead the radwaste and spent fuel technical workstreams and provide support to the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Liabilities Manager.

You’ll support the delivery of Intelligent Customer capability in the organisation on matters related to decommissioning and radioactive waste management.

You’ll produce company documents and provision of advice to other groups within and outside of the organisation.

The Skills

You’ll have experience of working with the preparation, review and delivery of technical documentation.

You’ll have recent working knowledge & experience of radwaste and decommissioning practices.

You’ll also have good working knowledge and experience of radioactive waste management practices and nuclear safety requirements, engineering, design, safety case and nuclear facilityoperation.

You’ll have good working knowledge of legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and standards relating to decommissioning and radioactive waste management.

You’ll have excellent understanding of the Energy Act 2008 and Funded Decommissioning Programme (FDP) Guidance and resultant operator obligations with regard to decommissioning and waste management planning.

Knowledge and experience in the preparation and management of decommissioning plans.

Ideally you’ll already hold, or working towards, Radioactive Waste Adviser or chartered status.
