Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals are looking for an enthusiastic consultant Histopathologist with experience in Perinatal pathology to join our experienced and highly motivated team at the Queens Medical Centre campus. We are using Digital Whole Slide Image reporting for primary diagnostics. The opportunity for some job planned home working would be feasible.

This post is specifically for perinatal pathology. Service are keen for the successful candidate to participate with autopsy service, which can be job planned as ATC. The department will be happy to consider specialist interests that will align with service needs.

The successful applicant should possess FRCPath (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register / or be eligible for inclusion on the specialist register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.Applicants should have established skills in histopathology with specialist training in perinatal pathology. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Dedicated laboratory facilities inclusive of Faxitron image assessment, macroscopic photography and a full array for Immunohistochemical and Genomic assays are available.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is a part time (7PA) consultant post, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the successful applicant.

The appointee will be required to have an appropriate level of training and experience in perinatal Pathology.

The post holder will be expected to provide advice on the diagnosis, staging and prognosis of patients suffering from disease. Reporting and interpretation of specimen submitted to the department in line with RCPath guidelines.

Take joint responsibility with colleagues for quality assurance within the department including taking part in national external quality assurance programmes, where appropriate.

Work with relevant clinical teams in the provision of comprehensive Cellular Pathology service to the users, including advice regarding appropriate specimen collection and investigations, interpretation of reports and the preparation of policies, procedures and guidelines.

To be jointly responsible for the supervision, training and management of any junior staff in the department.
