Summary


To support and deputise for the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse to ensure the provision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of staff and other resources.

To co-ordinate the day-to-day management of the ward/department and ensure excellent communication is maintained.

To ensure that there are education and training opportunities for all staff, including pre and post registration students and /or providing specialist knowledge if working in a clinical area where a post registration course is essential.
• Support and deputise for the senior ward sister / charge nurse.
• Providing leadership and taking charge of the ward in the absence of the senior sister / charge nurse.
• Participating in recruitment of junior staff.
• Undertaking individual performance reviews.
• Completing the unit roster.
• Undertaking regular audits.
• Representing the unit at meetings.
• Providing education for junior staff.

We are looking for a motivated, forward thinking and enthusiastic qualified nurse with an interest in vascular surgery to join our dynamic team, as a Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse. You will need a minimum of 3 years post registration experience with 18 months experience in vascular.

You will deputise for the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to ensure the provision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of the vascular ward. You will be expected to work mostly Monday to Friday days shifts opposite the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse.

Cheselden ward is a 22-beddedRegional Vascular Unit Hub for the Southwest Thames Vascular Network.It is one of the leading vascular centres in the UK, providing tertiary, specialised minor and major vascular procedures both for acute and elective patients including: angiographic procedures, endovascular aortic stenting, open aneurysm repair, limb bypass surgery, lower limb amputations and carotid endarterectomy.

The ward also cares for patients with complex wounds and has close links with diabetic services.

With over 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, we are the largest healthcare provider in southwest London.

Our main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research.
