Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with 3-5 years of experience to join our dynamic IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our databases, ensuring the availability and optimal functioning of our database systems.
The role below is an indication of where they believe the skills / experience of the successful candidate will lead too. We are looking for candidates who have the experience to develop into this role. Someone with good SQL skills and a keen interest in Azure.

Purpose of Job:
This role is responsible for the maintenance and support of database systems across the organisation. Support the administration and optimisation of MS SQL and Azure SQL databases and associated technologies, ensuring data security, quality, and efficient operation. Contribute to the design of database architectures, data warehousing, and change control processes within an agile project environment.

Duties and responsibilities:

Database Management and Administration:
• Support the management and administration of multiple MS SQL databases and Azure SQL databases.
• Assist in the design and administration of Azure SQL databases that underpin key business systems.
• Support the management and oversight of the data warehouse and all associated data flows.

Azure Ecosystem Management:
• Assist in the administration and functioning of Azure Logic Apps and Azure Data Factory.
• Support the seamless data integration and flow within the Azure ecosystem.

Security and Administration:
• Follow and maintain robust security measures for all databases and associated systems.
• Carry out regular administrative tasks to support the optimal functioning of databases.
• Monitor the database system to ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct regular system checks, updates, and maintenance routines to prevent potential issues.
• Ensure that all configuration and code meet standards, and that quality processes are followed, including use of deployment, version control and information security best practices.
• Contribute to occasional out of hour’s maintenance and support.
• Identify areas for improvement and support the development of business cases for potential new systems, services, or developments.
• Support the business continuity and disaster recovery plans across the organisation for the database systems and support in ensuring that these are regularly tested.
• Support in maintaining the organisation’s Systems Register detailing critical systems used by the Group, and identify, analyse, and manage risks associated with those systems.
• Support the maintenance of complex system integrations.

Database Architecture:
• Support the design and implementation of database architecture that aligns with organisational needs and goals.
• Ensure the scalability and performance of databases through regular monitoring and optimisation.
Change Control Processes:
• Participate in the change control processes.
• Provide input and recommendations to ensure efficient and effective change management.

Documentation:
• Create and maintain comprehensive database documentation.
• Ensure that all processes, changes, and configurations are well-documented.

Reporting
• Track and report on common issues, user feedback, and system performance to the management team.
• Recommend system improvements or additional training based on recurring issues or user feedback.

Requirements
• Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in SQL and database management systems (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Azure SQL).
• Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
• Strong understanding of backup and recovery strategies.
• Knowledge of database security practices.
• Familiarity with data migration and data integration processes.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) is a plus.
