Summary

We recognise the challenges that people with protected characteristics may experience on the job market and in their career progression. We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities. We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as possible, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities, people with a disability, and people with gender diverse identities.

Would you relish an opportunity to support the delivery of high value infrastructure programmes from inception through to delivery?

Do you enjoy collaborating and building relationships with a diverse range of partners?

If so, we are looking for two Project Delivery Professionals to join our teams, and we would love to hear from you.

The Government is committed to investing in the country’s infrastructure to improve productivity, level up our regions and provide low carbon transport. As part of meeting these goals, Rail Infrastructure Services and Delivery Group fulfils the sponsor role for the development and delivery of railway enhancements – delivering benefits now and for future generations.

The Integrated Rail Plan (IRP) outlines a £96 billion strategy of rail construction and upgrades in the Midlands and North to be delivered over the next 30 years. The IRP represents the biggest ever single investment in Britain’s rail network and will deliver a more modern network built to support the journeys that people want to make, benefiting small towns and big cities alike. Passengers are of course at the heart of the blueprint with major improvements focused on delivering more seats, shorter journey times, and more frequent and reliable services.

In these Programme Sponsor roles, you will be joining one of our teams responsible for developing the plans that will deliver the Integrated Rail Plan. It’s a constantly evolving, challenging and exciting environment to work in. You will contribute to the delivery of enhancements on either the East Coast Main Line or the Midlands Rail Hub programme.

In our East Coast team this will include working with Network Rail to oversee the planning, development, assurance and approvals of procurement plans for enhancements on the East Coast Main Line.

In our Midlands Rail Hub team this will include owning, developing, and implementing a critical train service planning workstream, whilst working closely with Network Rail, Midlands Connect, West Midlands Rail Executive, DfT Passenger Services, and Train Operating Company teams.

As one of our Programme Sponsors, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Operating as an intelligent sponsor and ensuring project delivery in line with the agreed requirements.
  • Advising and briefing senior leaders within the Department and responding to parliamentary business commitments as necessary.
  • Ensuring that route-wide interface and project delivery risks and issues are identified, managed, and escalated.
  • Ensuring value for money for the taxpayer and securing ministerial agreement and authorisation through the appropriate integrated Network Rail and Department for Transport governance processes for enhancement schemes.
