Summary


The Finance and Planning Directorate in NHS England is looking for talented, diverse, highly motivated people to join the Finance and Planning Business Partnering Team – Secondary Care team as a Finance and Planning Business Partner.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of work to support the NHS. As a Directorate, we:
• work closely with government to agree NHS funding;
• ensure the NHS lives within its annual budget set by Parliament;
• decide how to distribute the funding to the different NHS services and parts of England;
• support innovative programmes that improve the care and experience of NHS patients or people using NHS services;
• set out the financial and performance priorities the NHS should be delivering each year;
• report how much the NHS has spent on providing services each year;
• explore how the NHS can make the best use of its money;
• look at howspend on building or equipment can improve the care and experience of people using NHS services.
• consider how nationally we use these resources to improve healthcare outcomes, reduce inequality, improve health and support the NHS.

Within this, the Secondary Care Team:

supports the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Medical Officer directorates to use their programme, admin and wider system transformation budgets to improve care for patients;



The team offershigh profile, fast-paced projects. This requires adaptability, rigor and innovation and provides exciting development opportunities for those developing their careers in the NHS, health or the public sector.

Reporting on financial progress in-year across admin, programme and SDF budgets and ensuring that accounting policies and processes are adhered to so that the journal and ledgers reflect a true and fair position;

Supporting directorates on value-for-money assessments, financial modelling and investment appraisals of existing and new funding and policy proposals;

Providing the key link between programmes and the central finance, planning, workforce planning and strategy teams;

Supporting programmes and other finance teams on negotiations with HMT, DHSC, and profession representatives (such as GPC or PSNC)
